VFR1200X coming to USA in 2016

Honda USA announced today that the VFR1200X will be coming to the USA next year.

Unless the specs are incomplete, there are missing features:
  • Cruise-control?  If not, BOO! >:(
  • Electrically adjustable suspension? If not, BOO! >:(
The BMW R1200GS and Yamaha Super Ténéré both have those two features.
  • Regular or premium fuel?  If premium, BOO! 
Honda is apparently leaving out two important features that serious l-d riders need in their adventure and touring motorcycles. Hopefully Honda will correct those oversights for the 2017 model.

It doesn't say tubeless tires which most likely means tubes. And it weighs 600 lbs which is... well a lot! Also no price given... it's a Honda so probably a lot! Seat height is 33 1/2"... That's a tall seat too.
But it's the V4 and that has to be great. I look forward to seeing it.

It's difficult to hit all the targets with a 1st year model such as the VFR1200X, although it has been available in Europe since around 2012?   Anyhow, it's too heavy and too tall for me!

I believe this is the bike that Honda has been selling in Europe for a couple of years now. What surprises me is it's going to be introduced to the American market about the same time as the African Twin. -JEP-

Agreed.  Once again Honda misses the mark.  The old 800 V4 was the sweetest sounding bike around...the 1200VFR sounded awful.  The Africa twin is as heavy as my R1200GS, and this bike is MUCH heavier!  Come ON HONDA!  This bike has SO many competitors out there, that on paper seem way better.   It had better be cheap if they want to sell any!  Anyone have a chance to ride the KTM 1300 SuperAdventure yet?   This bike COULD be KTM's competition IF they would bring the electronics, suspension, and features to a level playing field, because THIS bike is SHAFT drive!

Compression ratio =12:1....  I'm gonna guess that premium fuel is required!!!  Double BOO!

If this is the bike sold in Europe for a few years we saw it when I was there in July. I wasn't impressed. The Crossrunner, the 800cc version "looked" better but was nothing. By that I mean there were a couple from Finland who rented them and up close they were just ugly and according to the Fins... the bikes were gutless.
I have a lot of photos from the trip I'll look through them to see if I got some of these bikes. Before the trip I was anxious to see these bikes but was not impressed when we did. Chris had tried to rent a Crossrunner but was so glad that he got stuck with the MT08... here Yamaha's FJ09.

Yes as I said... This is the baby brother the 800cc version. We also saw the Crosstourer and the Fins didn't think much of it either. I may have a photo of it too but gotta dig deeper. I'll look another time.

Highlights:
No standard center stand (available as an accessory)
No available cruise control
The cross-spoked wheels are tubeless. 
Fueled up it weighs 83 lbs more than the 2015 R1200GS, 37 more than a Triumph Tiger Exp., 42 more than a Super Tenere, but 44 lbs less than a Stelvio (which has an 8.3 gallon tank).
Third most powerful motor in this group.
Most attractive feature is the big V4 motor.

Yes and adventure of the FZ07 OR to my taste an adventure of the FJ09!


If you think of the bikes as more of a sport tourer with relaxed ergonomics they make more sense. The best compromise between a true dual sport and sport tourer would be in the 7-800CC range in my opinion. I would like to see Yamaha do an ADV version of the FZ07. I could see myself riding one some day.
