Cool, Unique and unusual Bikes you have had.

Interesting that two of my heroes have restored CX500s. A C model was my first street bike and "sport tourer". I thought it was a pig and traded it in on the 82 Sabre after my first road trip to Rocky Mountain National Park Check out the sissy bar backrest and high tech luggage system.

My CX has turned into a favorite bike for local evening rides. Rode a friend's stock CX500D (Mikuni test bed beater bike) in NC with a new set of Mikuni's installed, he sells Mikuni kits around the world. He told me to run it hard, so it pulled the front wheel completely off the ground when I shifted to second. Of course the original front suspension was soft, so have to admit it had a pogo stick effect. 

My 1980 CX500D came in at 400lbs wet and with larger jets, K&N pod filters, Ignatech ignition, and free flowing exhaust, it still does not run as strong or as economically as my 2015 CB500X, but there's something about it I like when riding on evening sunset rides.

I also ment to comment that I had 4 Nighthawk S's myself. I won't bore you with the looooong story as to how that happened but 3 were '86 RWB, 2 of those pristine or close to it and an '84 Blue and Black. Bottom line is I should have just kept the first RWB.

It's an 07. Yes I still have it, bought it in 2014. I was looking for an 848 and found this for sale by a grandson of my  Dad's old golfing buddy in New Orleans and couldn't pass it up.

I didn't grow up riding in my teens and 20s like many of you, so I didn't own or lust after these bikes. But I have been fortunate to know many local (NE Ohio) members with some of these cool bikes including an Ascot, and multiple Hawk GTs and CB-1s (I think some of those are still around). My only somewhat unique bike was probably a Bandit 600S (my first bike). When I got my 2000 CBR600F4 it was kind of rare at (then) HSTA events, as most were still riding STs, VFRs, and other stuff. More got into harder sport bikes later, when I was transition to my VFR

My baptism in riding was on a somewhat rare Suzuki GS1150E that my brother owned and road me as a passenger to WSBK at Laguna Seca.

So lets see some of the Cool, unique and even unusual motorcycles you have had. I am a big fan of some of the bikes that were only in production or at least in the states for a very limited time. I have owned many over the years and would still own a lot of them if money and space did not always seem to be a problem. Of course a move across the country did not help either.


Here are a few That have spent some time in my garage.


Honda Nighthawk S, I have owned six of these over the years. Only built for three years.





A red version that I owned (Most of mine were red although I liked the blue better)





Some of you might recognize this one, Kawasaki Eliminator, But this one is a 250cc. It was only here for four years and used the Ninja 250 engine and trans. Was pretty cool and I had two I also used them for teaching new riders.





How about a Honda VT500 Ascot. We got it for my Nephew and after a couple years he upgraded to a nighthawk S and I ended up with the Ascot. Hard to find now days!

Nighthawk S (700) was my first bike!   It was a great machine.  Traded that in on a 98 VFR800.

1980 Suzuki GS450S. My girlfriends bike back in the mid 80s:

I have an '80 Suzuki GS450e that I've equipped with an S fairing with a matching stripe tank and tail piece. For my money, it's probably more fun per buck invested than any other bike I've ever owned. I've put about 25,000 miles on it after getting it with about 8,000. After having it for more than a decade, it still puts a smile on my face. (Thank you Mike Morris in Oklahoma for selling it to me for the price I offered even though it took two trips to get it back to Tennessee.) It's a LOT of fun running around little backroads, but I've done a couple of thousand mile days on it as well.

HawkGTRider those older bikes are classic. If maintained last forever. I just read an article in my Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club magazine about two guys who went and bought 79 and 80 Kawasaki and Suzuki's and after cleaning the carbs and the usual fluid changes rode them on 2,200 mile trips.

It was an awesome bike in its day. I had an e model for club racing in 85 but it got beat up pretty bad because I crashed a lot. It was hard to find good track tires for it.

Can't recall the model year but I had one too. It was red. Great bike!
