Devilish fun on older, high mileage bikes
« on: November 06, 2016, 07:55:18 am »
Last night, while returning home from running a spot light at the Disney on Ice show, I paused to take the attached photo of the instrument cluster on my 1988 Honda Hawk GT (NT650). I don't know if everyone would call this bike either old or high mileage, so I'll just call it delightful.

So far this bike has been all about fun in my 21 years of ownership, and in these miles has been stone cold reliable. I am this bike's second owner and purchased it in the spring of 1995 when it had 10,000 miles on it...I remember that because I noticed the odometer turned over that number after just beginning my test ride. I rode it to the Lake Eufaula, OK STAR in 1997, and while it hasn't been the choice for another STAR, it's been the choice for many days of fine riding. (Consecutive 700-mile days to Lake Eufaula convinced me that this "compact" bike was not the machine for back-to-back long days.)

What older/high mileage bike do you have in your garage that still puts a smile on your face?

Game. Set. Match!    The rest of us should bow down in adoration and admit that we are not worthy..... :)

Seriously have never heard of another bike, other than a Goldwing, with this kind of mileage...especially one with such a high reving and powerful engine.

Averaging 16,667 miles per year for 15 years all on one bike is quite an accomplishment. That's a LOT of tire changes that had to be worked in between rides. Very nice, Denise.

Are there any older bikes than that which are daily riders?

Not exactly "old", just a has been, my '02 ST had 77,777 on the odo a few weeks ago just as I was rolling out of the garage. The title to my '79 CX500 project bike said 199,000. But I think that was erroneous. It does look like a turd, though. Can't claim any of those miles, hahahaha.  :^)  TM

My 98 VFR has about 62,000 all but about 10K are mine, still my favorite bike by far.

Pat, nice pic looks the Sistersville ferry.

Denise, you are the queen of high milage, someday you'll have to replace that bike, maybe at 500K :-)
