Not that I want to buy one but the new Wing has lots of interesting technical features.  They claim it's 90 pound lighter than the previous model but still close to 1/2 ton.  It comes with either a 6-speed manual trans or 7 speed DCT trans.  And they said the function of elec starter and alternator were combined into one unit called the "starter/generator." 

In museums, I've seen cars from the 20s with starter/generators but I often wondered if you could start the engine via a fan belt; of course, the engines probably had 6-to-1 compression.  :D

RoadRunner did a big run down.  Part of the weight loss is 1.1 gallons less fuel.  They claim no loss of range due to 20% better fuel efficiency.

Hmmm... I wonder does the starter/generator still also function as the back-up motor?

The rider and passenger sit slightly more forward in the new one, Honda says. With new ducts and an electric windshield, the goal is to minimize wind blast and give the rider more control over airflow.

Possible added benefit being more aerodynamic, and therefore better MPG. Yep from the info in the RoadRunner article linked

The styling is more angular, and the saddle bags remind me of FJR (that white outline around the black reminds me of the FJR back shape).

Just a guess, but the linked story said 110 liters for saddlebags+trunk, and those trunks are usually 40-50 liters or more. The current 1800 specs (from goldwingworld.com) shows 61 liter top box, and 40+ liter each saddlebag, total 147 liter. So if new one is approx 40 liter less, maybe saddlebags closer about 10 less, or close to 30 liter.

Thanks Steve.
I rode to Asheville today to go to my VA appointment. I got there early and so stopped at Eurosport which is a BMW/KTM dealer. Great people they just don't have bikes I would want to buy. Anyway they have two of the K1600B baggers on the floor. I couldn't help notice a resemblance to the new Gold Wing.

Brick...I'm with you on that. I'm not getting rid of my GL1200 or even the ST1100 any time soon, but I'm also not buying thing that size again. Any new additions to the fleet will have to be smaller and lighter.
