Paranoia saved me today

Travelling west on LA 10 65 mph. Lady in a Volvo wagon approaching on my right on a side road she had a stop sign. I always study vehicles approaching my path for clues. Subtle clues throw up red flags for me suggesting they are not going to stop and I take action. Usually they are just sloppy drivers and do stop. Not this time she blasted right into collision course but I was ready.Had already rolled off and covered the brake. Else I'd likey be in the hospital now.

I usually call that having a 6th sense or using one of the other 5 , you can smell it coming. I'm sure many of you have done this from time to time. So I'm not saying I'm the best rider, but I have saved my own bacon many times just from eyeing someone approaching just as Bob did. You might say to yourself, watch this idiot do something stupid and sure enough.....there it was.

Definetely feels like a sixth sense. You start to feel like you now hat a motorist is going to do before they do. Having ridden now 4-5 days a week for 10 years a lot of habits have been formed without even realizing it. (Hopefully mostly good habits )


My new multistrada has a multi-function supergizmo contoller dispaly activated by pressing the turn signal canceler when no turn signal is active. I suddenly discovered that I had a habit of cancelling my turn signals whenever I leave an intersection whether I need to or not. I had to unleran that one,

Having cut my "riding teeth" in Southern California, and spending time on the freeways I got really good at it. I'd be able to look at a car and within a few seconds figure if they were gonna do something detrimental to my well-being. You  just have to keep practicing it every time you ride.

I am trying to recover from some tendinitis in my left thumb and on both my Tenere and my FJ09 there are lots of functions to accomplish with that left thumb. I too realize that I too got into the habit of “turning off my turn signals” when they are not on. But I think it’s, for me, a great habit!

You are not alone with ETCS....... Excessive Turnsignal Cancelling Syndrome. I find myself and others doing it all the time. As we think we are better motorists than the general public (mostly we are) we don't want to be THAT GUY who left his turn signal on. You know, like the blue hairs (from any state) behind the wheel. You sure don't want to be one of those, LOL.
We have always been taught about making false signals 'cause we will pay the biggest price if something happens. So I think it's natural.      TM

While we are talking about how superior we bikers are at motor vehichle operation  have you guys noticed how absurdly slow the reaction times are of many car drivers? Often times the car I am following will hit his brakes AFTER a turning vehicle has completed the turn and cleared our lane.
