2019 STAReview Article Submission deadlines
« on: December 31, 2018, 08:01:14 am »

From Nicky Zarras, SR Editor...

The SR is a member driven and member written publication, and it takes member input to make it happen.  Nicky and the staff are always looking for articles written by, and about, MSTA members and MSTA happenings. Input from members in the way or articles and pictures is always welcome.

Here are the date deadlines for submission.....

February 19, 2019...…Spring 2019
June 1, 2019...………...Summer 2019
August 3, 2019...……..Autumn 2019
October 26, 2019...….Winter 2020
These deadlines are hard deadlines.  Articles submitted after these dates will appear in a following issue.

Here's an example of why these dates are important and a why delay of them would mean a delay in when the SR reaches members...

SPRING 2019 ISSUE PRODUCTION SCHEDULE
Feb 19.….all articles submitted
Feb 26.….word documents out for edit
Mar 4..….upload of documents and photo advertising for layout for pdf 1
Mar 9..….pdf sent to staff for edit
Mar 18….pdf 1 sent to layout for corrections
Mar 22….pdf 2 reviewed for final and sent to EC for approval
Mar 25….pdf final sent to printer with distribution list for printing and mailing
Apr 1...…issue due to members

As anyone can see, there are a lot of steps in the process and a delay anywhere along the line will result in the issues reaching members late.  PLEASE SUBMIT ARTICLES ON TIME.

For the SPRING 2019 issue Nicky is looking for articles on TRAVEL and BIKE UPGRADES made by members, along with high quality portrait photos of members on rides for the COVER SHOT.

Regarding "Input from members in the way or articles and pictures is always welcome.  "  So is there a link somewhere about how to submit an article to STAReview?

Email them to Nicky Zarras. His info is in the bluebook. Or from the ridemsta.com site: editor@ridemsta.com
There has also been information in past magazines about it. If you want to submit an article, email Nicky and he'll work with you on it.

I can understand the need for high res photos for the cover shot but photos that accompany an article can survive nicely in lower res.  We're not competing with National Geographic - this is a motorcycle club magazine!

It makes me wonder how many articles are rejected because of low res photos?

Modern cameras and phones all take photos at resolutions that are acceptable.

Using higher resolution leaves room for cropping and blowing up to fit the page layout and makes things easier for the STAReview folks to do their job.
