On the way to STAR!
« on: May 31, 2014, 08:13:58 pm »
Ok... We are leaving tomorrow, Sunday morning! There will be 5 of us from Western NC. We are riding to Taos then up through a bunch of Colorado then up to Rapid City! I'm ready NOW... Will I sleep tonight?
I love MC travel and after almost 40 years of traveling on a motorcycle I still get this way the night before!

My plans for leaving Monday morning have gone a bit awry, but I hope to be out 'o here by Tuesday...we'll see. You can follow my progress from East Tennessee to Rapid City, on to Alaska, and back home here...

Looks like the first week or two will be pretty soggy...whose idea was it to camp all the way to Alaska in the rain? :-)

I started out last week at TriSTAR in Sparta, NC and am about to depart from Waynesburg, PA to head across Ohio. I plan to arrive in RC on Friday.

Don,
Hasn't anyone told you that you'd get there quicker if you jumped on the Interstate?

No doubt about it, but there's no hurry and I really don't need to get there any quicker. I want to see scenery along the way and hopefully sample some twisties in the various states I'll pass through, even if there might not be many, such as in Iowa.

The goal is the journey, not just the destination.

Sad to say, but it now appears I may not be able to leave until late Tuesday evening or even Wednesday morning (a long time friend's wife passed away last night, and her funeral is Tuesday evening). That will definitely put a crimp in my travel plans. However, I still hope to only see interstates from a distance.

I'm heading out early, early Thursday morning; heading sort of North (Ky, IN, Ill, WI) and then West (Mn to SD).  No firm route and no reservations along the way.   NO interstate unless absolutely necessary.  Be there late afternoon Saturday unless I get lost.  It'll be the first time I've ridden in Ill, WI, Mn and SD.

Stop, turn around you're headed for Durango and the Million Dollary Highway, surely you don't want to ride that ;)
See one of my other favorites in your path CO92 along the edge of Gunnison Canyon.
