Maggie Valley route info wanted

Myself and 3 other MSTA members are renting a house just outside Maggie Valley, NC for a few days, the last weekend of September.  We are staying for 4 days, and none of us have stayed in that area before.  Could any of you local, or experienced people in that area, suggest some 200-300 mile routes, using MV as our start/stop points?  We'd also be interested in meeting up with anyone local to the area that might want to show us around or spend some time riding with us.  We will all be riding STREET bikes, and DS routes will not be desired.... .      Thanks in advance.

Pat,  I will throw a route out there. Follow 276 through Waynesville and into SC, then right onto 11, then right on 178 back to 64 in NC, then left a short distance to a right on 215 back to 276.  Another good but short road close by is 151 from Candler to the BRP.
Another good one is 209 from Waynesville to Hot Springs.

Also if you are around Bryson City and are looking for a good meal try Jimmie Mac's.  Any local can point the way.

441 through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg was very crowded when we were there this summer. www.motorcycleroads.us has some suggested routes. Of course you have to do Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway. If you've got time you can mail order a Mad Maps map, they've got one of the Smoky Mountains that's good.

441 is avoided by most motorcycles I know, too much traffic. And roads like the Dragon and Cherohala are widely known by most here (some avoid them because of the traffic, LEO, and zany riders).
I recall getting a Mad Maps for that area some years ago, possibly in the registration packet or a door prize at one of the MSTA events in that area (Asheville maybe).

Pat,  for a longer route instead of taking 178 & 215 back to 276, continue on 11 to Walhalla and then right on 28 through Franklin and on to 19.  Then you can follow 19 or 74 ( 4 lane ) back to Cherokee and Maggie Valley.  I have been riding in that area at least twice a year for the past 12 years and can give you more info at the RTE on the 13th.
