Forum upgrade in progress
« on: January 28, 2021, 10:18:11 AM »
Hopefully the only impact for users is that users who were previously logged in permamently will have to log in again.
We have succesfully upgraded to 2.0.16 which was the necessary firts step to get to 20.0.17 which is the current most stabe version which I have been advided by the Gurus at SMF support to upgrade to.

Yesterday I sought support due to a spammer intrusion. He or she got in via Tapatalk. Due to my inept configuration of the Tapatalk mod tapatalk users could register from within the app bypassing our security. This has hopefully been fixed. Tapatalk functioning should not be altered once registered. Tapatalk users will just have to first register using the forum registration procedure.

UPDATE: Upgrade to 2.0.17 is complete. :trink39:

Now I know whey I had to re-register when I logged in today.

Thanks for hopefully eliminating some spammers.  We don't need them.

Extra Thanks to Bob from me. For years I’ve been using the app Tapatalk on my iPhone to get to the Forums that I participate in. The latest “upgrade” produced errors when I accessed the MSTA forum via Tapatalk. Bob spent hours making it work properly again!

It bears saying again Bob, THANKS!
Your time and efforts are very much appreciated...

Back when I was wrestling with early version of the SMF it was a bear, hoping it's gotten easier with time and development...

As you know it is software written by geeks for geeks. They don't really have any concept of "user friendly" LOL But I have been a regular on the SMF support forum and those folks have been great, coaching me along the way out of several binds.

Ha-ha, them damn geeks and their cryptic ways  ;) I guess I've been writing software for end users for so long I rarely do those programs for the geeks. (By the way our users who hate change, so every little thing has a switch to do it the old way or the new way, lost track of how many hundred system options we have.) Occasionally I do write some tool just for us developers and can make it less user friendly.

Anyway thanks for your effort Bob, I'm sure it can be frustrating at times. I haven't stopped by in a while so I've got some catching up to do.
