Early in the year in 2023, I purchased a used NC750X. It had Shad mounting brackets for soft bags and brackets for a hard top box. I'm ambivalent about soft bags, but I purchased a Shad top box. (TR48 Black)

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I haven't had the opportunity to use it much, but it seems to be pretty solid. I'm not sorry about the purchase.

I'll be there with a surprise guest. My better half has decided to come along this year...Cindy. She doesn't ride, but will be driving her car. I'll be riding.

It'll be good to see everyone there!

California / Re: New California Members
« Last post by Patmo on Today at 07:13:32 AM »
The last membership directory was updated in May of 2023, and even then it was immediately outdated as it didn’t allow constant and immediate updates.  A new system that is being worked out will allow the directory to be accessed electronically via the MSTA website and it will constantly and immediately update itself as people join and memberships lapse. Should be implemented fully sometime this summer.

I would suggest using FACEBOOK to reach out to the largest number of people that might be interested in getting together. We have 11X the number of people in our Facebook group (11,000) that we have as dues paying members or forum members (<1000). It also constantly updates as people join (we are averaging over 200 new Facebook “members” a month!).

The other option….if you just want to reach out to dues paying members of the “club” is to contact Don Moe (membership@ridemsta.com) and ask him to send you the current roster of members for California. That will, provide you with names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails.

Thanks for your efforts toward getting the California people back together!

Just FYI, the forums have very little activity as many have moved to things like Facebook (not myself). Might be easier to pull out the MSTA directory (blue book) and look for members in the local area and contract them directly if you are interested in getting something going.

PS  I have some family in the LA area, one brother used to live in Agoura Hills and when we went on rides we would sometimes head thru Moorpark and ride 23 (Grimes Canyon)

The Garage / Re: Found excellent replacement battery
« Last post by stevegrab on Yesterday at 04:30:54 PM »
Interesting comment in the initial post about getting an actual manual with the battery that covered initial charging process. Every YUASA battery I have purchased had that kind of information. I've had pretty good luck with batteries, especially if the rest of the bikes charging system is in good order (98 VFR and the dreaded R/R plus a bad stator).

I do agree with using a battery tender, something I learned from others in my riding circle early on. I think for a few years I was even removing them from the bike and bringing them inside (unattached and drafted garage). This past Christmas I got one of the newest Battery Tender Jr as a gift, was one short now that all my bikes are in working order. That one came with an interesting cable setup, only one cable with the clips to attach to the battery removable from their end fittings by taking out a screw. That's great as I rarely used the other ones and had several extras lying around.

Late to the party but I'd also give a thumbs up for Givi. I inherited a case on a used bike I bought, and while it had some aging issues including a problem with the lock it held up for several years of regular use on multiple bikes. The first time my brother borrowed mine on a trip on his VFR he was hooked, and had one ordered quickly. I since bought a newer one that is lighter and a bit more compact, necessary to avoid overloading which caused a bracket to crack.

Regarding RKA, I too recall hearing that they may be going out of business or looking to sell. I have one tank bag from them that is pretty good, but I have to say it was not as good as an older model of the bag I had borrowed from a friend before buying this one. (Fewer features, rain cover was extra and not very waterproof.) That was a purchase maybe 10 years ago that I haven't used much since. But that is very common these days, "they just don't make them like they used to". I have also had pretty good luck with an Eclipse tank bag, as well as a Tourmaster magnetic tank bag that fits several of my bikes well.

Tusky-Musky Rally / Re: Road Routes
« Last post by stevegrab on Yesterday at 04:12:26 PM »
I was riding in Ohio once (route 93 just north of Sugar Creek) coming thru a corner and over a rise, there was a horse and buggy stopped and traffic at the cross street, and coming the other way. The horse raised those front legs pretty high and appeared to be doing a wheelie as I grabbed the binders to avoid getting caught up in the situation.

Also have to watch out for the road apples, or as Quint Marcaletti calls them "Amish exhaust".

Sorry I missed this event in my backyard, but look forward to seeing some of you at other events thru the year, including Tri-STAR next weekend.
