HistoryI am the original owner. Have ridden the bike responsibly and 99% on-road. Serviced regularly by certified BMW shops. All service records available for inspection. Bike runs fine, with notes below. Selling bike in order to get new R1200GS. Otherwise I would keep and ride it!
Added equipment (included in above price):Vario (BMW) side and top cases
BMW handguards
BMW aluminum skid plate
PIAA 1100x halogen driving lights (extremely bright)
Adventure Spec crash bars
CalSci touring windshield
Sargent comfort seat
Flashing auxiliary LED brake light
Kaoko throttle lock
Rox riser
3 RAM mount balls on handlebars
Maintenance Status
Recently completed repairs (i.e., like new):
Replaced rear wheel bearings
Replaced chain & sprocket set
Replaced rear tire (Bridgestone Trailwing)
Will need to be replaced soon:
Front tire
Rear disk brake rotor showing wear
Steering head bearings -- still good but may need replacement in future.
Time for regular 6K service.
Design of the Bike
See specs: http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/25788/Buyers-Guide-Specifications/2010-BMW-F650GS.aspx

Good points:
Smooth, powerful (0-60 in 4.2s)
6th gear is overdrive, very smooth on highway cruising. All the gear ratios are excellent.
Gas milage ~50mpg at 60 with no headwinds, unleaded gas
Handles very well on twisties
Deep suspension for rough roads & bumps
Tubeless tires
Self cancelling turn signals
Heated grips
Nimble and fun, but comfortable for long distance travel. I've ridden it to Colorado from Houston several times, and done the SaddleSore 1000.
Moderate seat height and narrow waist: good for medium size people.
Relatively light weight, easy to move around in your garage.
Low center of gravity (for a GS): gas tank is underneath the seat.
Never had a problem overheating, even in Texas summers (105+)
Bad points:
Long wheel base & tall first gear not suited to real offroad. Fine for well maintained dirt or tight gravel roads but not for single track.
Occasionally stalls when coming to stop at idle; this is a design "feature" not a maintenance issue -- BMW designed it to run lean to meet EU enviro regs. I use a throttle lock to keep the revs up, solves problem. There are also some aftermarket devices (Booster Plug) to make the engine run richer which solves the problem, but I've never felt the need to install one.
Comparable Prices
Here are comparable prices:
NADA guide says "average retail"= $7996 "low retail"= $6107 (with windshield, side & top cases)

The 798cc parallel twin has now been around long enough now that alot are out there with well over a 100k on them.
This F650GS along with the F700GS are great all-a-rounder's, on road, off road, daily commute, city, country or long distance touring and damn near perfect for the solo rider.

The only thing I changed was the switching of the front sprocket from the stock 17T to a 16T which is the same as the F800GS.  It made the bike perfect for me on and off road.

Great farkeled bike here at a good price. Someone should grab this one.

Thanks, and I wish somebody did. But alas I traded it in.
