Title: New member in Cherryville, NC
Post by: Phlip on September 15, 2021, 01:45:20 PM
Hi. I recently joined. I'm in Cherryville, NC. I am currently retired.

I got my 1st street bike in 1982, an '81 Suzuki GS450T. 10 months and 10,000 miles later that was replaced with a new '82 Suzuki GS550M Katana. 12 months and 12,000 miles after that, I added a new '82 Suzuki GS1100E.

Now, my main traveling bike is a 2016 Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally. It replaced an '07 Moto Guzzi Breva 1100."Premature old age" and lots of injuries required a bike with good legroom and the Capo Rally has been great so far, much better than my Guzzi was. I also have an '08 Aprilia Shiver. I've upgraded the suspension and made some custom brackets for Krauser K4 and K5 hard luggage. So, the Shiver can be a sporty sport tourer bike.

Earlier this year, I started riding with a great group of guys that are mostly retired. Almost all ride some sort of adventure tourer, with BMW 1250 GS the most popular. These guys seem to know every twisty backroad in NC, VA and TN. I am by far, the slowest rider in this group but hey don't even make fun of me...maybe they just quietly pity me.   :o Some of these guys are MSTA members. I heard them discussing this group and thought I'd give it a go.

Since I mentioned that I had owned a Moto Guzzi (for 9 years!), you might think that means I'm a little strange. I'm not actually, I'm a lot strange.  ;D I hope to meet lots of you guys out on the road. I'll try to keep my warped sense of humor in check.

Welcome Phillip!  You’ll find more than one Guzzi fan in this group, so don’t sweat it.  You’ll also find more than one “strange” person here too (although maybe I shouldn’t be the one to point that out. 😂). We tend to like ALL motorcycles and all motorcycle riders here, so please plan to attend some of our regional events and/or STAR when you have a chance. Keep riding and we will see sometime down the road.

People are strange, when you're a stranger....

Welcome aboard Phillip

Hey Flip… Welcome to the MSTA!

I’m one of the 1250GS guys that Flip rides with locally and he’s no more strange than the rest of us. The group that we ride with locally is called the Carolina Old Farts Sport Touring Association and Phil’s name with us is Flip as that’s his “handle” on our forum.

Flip I posted on COFSTA that some of us are riding up to the MSTA’s Fall Colors rally, you should join us.

Brick, that sounds good but I can't commit yet. I may be going to Austin with my son that weekend. I'll have to wait to hear from him to see if he will be off that weekend. He is currently off the grid at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He an a few others have been camping out and blowing stuff up and jumping in a lake out of a helicopter and other fun stuff for the last several weeks.

Update:
Okay, my Texas trip is cancelled and I have my room is booked for the Fall Colors Rally. I'll be tagging along with the Old Farts from NC.

Welcome from East Tennessee! I have to admit that I've always admired the 1100 Breva. If I could have put my hands on one, I'd hoped to ride it in the 2005 Iron Butt Rally. I rode one of the Bavarian twins instead.

In the Hopeless Class, no doubt.  :)

It might have been considered so. The IBR was won on a Guzzi once upon a time...even though it did finish on only one cylinder.

Excellent see you there.  Weather forecast is looking good, hope that holds. Cold and wet is often a big part of FCR, a warmer/dry event is welcome.
