STAR 2022 will be held at the Drury Plaza Hotel Cape Girardeau Conference Center, 3351 Percy Dr, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701, USA

The MSTA National Rally.  STAR= Sport Touring Association Rendezvous.

Officially opening up on Sunday evening and closing on Wednesday evening with a banquet.  However, many people come in early on the Friday or Saturday before that Sunday and stay until the Thursday after the banquet.

On and Off-Road routes will be available.

Registration will include the Tuesday Lunch Ride, the Wednesday evening banquet, door prizes, and a goodie bag for all attendees.

The hotel serves an evening happy hour every day that includes drinks and some food.  This is part of your room rate.

After you are registered for the rally you will get an email with the link for online reservations at the discounted rate.  There is also the phone number and group rate code in the email.  We want to avoid people reserving rooms in the block and then never actually coming to the rally.

We’ve experienced that in the past where people reserve rooms, just in case they might decide to come to the rally, then decide at the last minute not to come and cancel the rooms.  Meanwhile, people get register for the event, contact the hotel, and are told that there are no rooms in the block still available.  Then those people cancel their registration for the event.

So we decide that we will only give out the group rate code AFTER someone actually registers for the event.

Hmmm… I don’t recall having to use a code to get my room after I registered for the event. I wonder if I got the event rate. Perhaps I’ll call and see.
Thanks

If you used the link in the email confirmation to reserve your room online, you should have gotten the discount rate.  They set that link up for the sole use of the event.

If you call, as I did, give the code also.  It made it much easier for the person to look up our great riding group, that live by the motto, ATGATT.

Registration link for the “overflow” hotel states the rate is $72/night (plus tax). THAT RATE IS ONLY GOOD FOR 6-19, 20, and 21. If you are arriving early and staying thru 6-22, they are upcharging to an average of $83/night (plus tax). So they are not honoring the same deal as the main hotel.

The Pear Tree's rate is $72 per night (plus taxes), and their guests can also take advantage of the Drury Plaza breakfast and 5:30 "Kickback".  However, due to local liquor laws, Pear Tree guests will NOT be able to receive the 3 free alcoholic drinks that are available to those staying at the Drury.  Reservations at the Pear Tree must be made no later than May 18, 2022.  You can use the following link to make reservations at the Pear Tree, or call them at 800-325-0720.  If you call, be sure to use our group number:  2439009.
Pear Tree Inn - STAR 2022

Just so you know…I think that’s a bit devious. They are the same chain.

When I first started attending STAR that is the way it worked, had to register before you could book a room for the event (in our block at discount rate). I did realize at one point recently that seemed to change. It can definitely create issues, especially at smaller venues, or mixed (main and overflow) hotels. Glad to see it reverted back.

I'm registered and booked a room at the 'overflow hotel' The Pear Tree Inn. I know that I won't receive any complimentary cocktails at the Drury Inn, but the $43 per night savings will allow me to purchase some adult beverages of my choice.

I'm also registered for the BMWMOA rally in Springfield MO for the 4 day's preceding STAR. Two rallies in the same state, same month = more saddle time.  ;D

I received an email from RoadRUNNER Magazine, on Feb. 17, talking about 2022 Events Roundups.  It lists several MSTA events.
One of the rides to start the season is:
Ozarks Great Escape, April 22-24, Eureka Springs, AR.  We were there last year and if you have not attended this great event, plan to make it this year.

Another MSTA event listed is: STAR 2022, June 19-22, 2022 in Cape Girardeau, MO.
These are only two of the rides that they listed for 2022.

Volunteers Needed!

Our organization would not function (or even exist!) without the help of volunteers.  In the past we have relied on folks to just show up and help out when needed, but this year we're trying to be a little more organized by setting up a free account with Signup.com.  If you're interested in volunteering during the rally (registration room, door prize room, welcoming riders, bike wash, etc.), just go to the following link (you don't have to set up your own account):

You'll see that each area where volunteers are needed is listed for each day, and each day is broken up into 1-hour increments.  If you can give us a hand in one (or more) of these areas just enter your name in the appropriate time slot.  Surely everyone can spare at least one hour sometime during STAR!

One of the loneliest feelings I ever had was in a room full of folks I didn't know. I found out that by being a volunteer, I met a BUNCH of people. I wasn't lonely anymore in that crowd. This is a great way to get to know some of your fellow STAR attendees. And if you already know everyone, don't you want a reason to be out and see them? Be a volunteer!

Just to let everyone know:

We are not asking for leads for many of these positions and you will generally be volunteering alongside an experienced member.  These are volunteer positions that are helping positions primarily.  These positions are EASY and FUN!

Scott Sneeden will be doing his usual great job in the Registration Room.
Norm Kern will be at the GPS desk.
Kelly Ernst will be in registration handling the treasurer's duties.
Geoffrey Greene will be selling Ride for Kids tickets.
We already have some regulars that take care of door prizes and the raffle.

BUT WE NEED MORE PEOPLE TO HELP ASSIST THESE REGULARS AND GIVE THEM A BREAK SO THAT THEY AREN'T DOING IT ALL THE TIME. You will have the opportunity to meet and interact with so many members of the club and you will have FUN doing it too!  Pick your own time and position and what it is that you want to do. It can be as easy as just saying welcome and handing someone a bottle of cold water.  it can be as easy as sitting at a table for an hour answering questions, or directing people where to park, where to check-in, and where to go eat. None of these volunteer positions are hard to do and you can have fun with all of them.  Please help out your fellow members and volunteer today!
