Riding in 2020
« on: January 03, 2021, 02:00:39 PM »
Well when Covid hit I figured that I wouldn’t get many miles in 2020. However I soon realized that it was very easy to social distance in my helmet. I ended up riding 22,467 miles in 2020.

Also I purchased a BMW R1250GS. I had never owned or wanted to own a BMW before. I took a test ride on a low suspension model and found that it fit me well. I find this 1250 motor strong and fun. Not as agricultural as any of the older boxer motors I had ridden.

I hope your 2020 riding year was as fun as mine.

Lots more solo riding for me, but still one event and some good group riding including fun picnic rides and lunch at ice cream stands. Was good to see my friends and ride some of my favorite roads.

I managed 30,043 for the year. My pre-covid  12 hours a week at the gym was replaced by road work either riding or running. Managed four extended trips all of which were impacted by covid restrictions and three of which involved mishaps ranging from minor to major.

For anyone interested my Milage Log app is reset and ready for 2021.

Always a few snags starting a new year. I did do a successful test registration with test rider. Can you remember the error message? Did you enter numbers for both 2020 and 2021?

My mileage was not near as many as you all but I did manage to ride with Bob a couple of times this year....   Very enjoyable as always.  I hope to get out more this year but that nasty four letter word seems to get in my way at times...  "work"...   Hope to see you all on the road. I know I'll see Bob!

Brick I duplicated your error by  doing a testt tregistartion and leaving 2020 miles and 2021 miles blank. Tried again with some numbers and it worked. Thr database does not like blanks when the field is a number. Should have defaulted to 0 but it did not. Also, the form validation should have forced you to enter numbers. So many little details to update just to move from one year to the next, I probably missed one. Sorry for the inconvenience!

2020 was a terrible riding year for me, due entirely to Covid. I have been averaging around 25-30K/year for over 20 years. This year my riding was less than 5K! I hope to get my shots and make up for lost riding time in 2021. -JEP-

When I was working a regular day job, I averaged riding around 30k-35k miles per year. Since that ended in 2011, my riding has dropped substantially. Apparently many of my miles were commuting to work. So while my miles are down, at least the quality of my miles is up.

I did manage to edge up to near 23k this year, by making a trip to Lake Erie on the way to the Mail Pouch Fly By in late August, another all the way up to New Hampshire in October, a trip to the FL panhandle in early August, down to the FL keys in mid-December, but started the year off by heading over to T-32 in mid-May. I also went to TriSTAR in late May and the Big Lynn Lodge event in July. For a day ride, I rode up to the Red River Gorge event in early July.

Cindy & I rented an RV in September and drove over to the Mississippi River on the west end of Tennessee before heading north. We actually went through Cape Girardeau, where STAR was scheduled but cancelled, on the way to Minnesota and the "source" of the Mississippi River at Lake Itasca. That trip was interesting, but it was 14 days of zero riding. We also rented a cabin at a state park in Tennessee for the entire week of Thanksgiving. Again, it was a good time, but included no riding.

Here's hoping for more riding in 2021.

I put on less than 700 miles on the three bikes in the garage.  And, less than 1,000 miles on the Mustang GT also.  I also put on over 120 hours on a John Deere 345 Liquid Cooled Kawasaki Riding Lawn Tractor.  If that was a cycle and averaged 45 mph with towns and stops and such, that would have been about another 5400 miles.

No helmet or riding jacket.  Just a hat.  I did have 4 wheels.

And our Church lawn does look fantastic!

I plan to change those figures this year.  Got to get back to 2 wheels.

Hope to see everyone at STAR 2021, without the John Deere.
