Title: 2014 MAIL POUCH FLY-BY
Post by: Ohiomsta on July 13, 2014, 06:53:12 PM
It's now less than 2 weeks till the Fly-By, August 23-24-25, 2014!
Don't miss attending the MSTA's largest regional event.
Pre-registrations are way ahead of the amount we had on this date last year. Looks like we could have record attendance at this years event.
Make your hotel reservations now to be sure of a room at the event hotel.

Called the hotel today, as of Tuesday, July 15th, they have ONLY rooms with King beds still available.

I reserved a couple of rooms at the Microtel Inn just down the road at a good price, in case anyone is interested.

As always looking forward to it, room reserved, will get registration in soon.
No which fun roads do we take to get there? What route will we ride at the event? What beer will we drink? So many decisions ;)
PS  Anybody going through Woodsfield looking for somewhere to eat several places that used to be there have closed over the years, but a new places has opened. Ida's Lunchbox is a nice diner type place, on 26/800 just south of the BP station (believe address is 211 S. Main St). And there is a nice new DQ-Brazier on the corner of 26-800 opposite corner from McD.

I'm still working on solidifying my calendar for that time. Looking iffy at best, but I really want to attend this event. Missed it last year, and it's the funnest thing I've ever done when attending in past.  :D

Howdy,

Looking forward to MPFB this year. Ready to go...but haven't seen any GPS files posted. Am I not finding them somewhere in the forum? Or, are they just not ready quite yet?

Some there, as well.  Got a better deal, at higher rated hotel, with the Microtel.

If anyone still needs a room, I have an extra bunk at the Hampton Inn less than a mile down the road.

Hey Pat, I'll be just across the road from ya.

Mounted the new Michelin PR4's on Saturday after MI Squadron breakfast and ride. Sunday scrub in about 125 miles. Today, wash and clean the beast. Tomorrow begin packing. See you in Marietta Friday night.  :) I'm so stoked.  :-*

Is anyone else from Florida attending the event?  I'm already on my way there from Jupiter, FL, stopping tonight (Tuesday) in Thomson, GA. Taking my time, I expect to arrive on Thursday.  :)

For some reason I could not reply to your PM.  Will call or text this morning.  Bunk is still open.  Stayed at Hampton last year, nice place.  Cost is $235 for both days. Includes breakfast and internet.  Two standard beds, whatever standard is.  Checked other places, Super 8 has rooms and lower prices but a bunch of negative reviews.  Used to stay at Red Roof Inn's too, but last two times were less than enjoyable.

Just a warning for those heading out to ride to Mail Pouch tomorrow or Friday. I was looking at my route from Wooster to Marietta using roads on to the west of I-77. I was disappointed to see many road closures that could make routing difficult. Lots of this is north of I-70 on roads like 666, 60, 83 and 208.

If you want to look at this info yourself check out the link below and look for road construction or road work.
Ohio DOT traffic site  http://www.buckeyetraffic.org/ (http://www.buckeyetraffic.org/)  click cancel to stay on site (older version which I like better) or click Ok to go to new site.

I see one closure on SR26 closed between 148 and 145 (this is south of I-70 but north of Woodsfield). The site says this construction will end on 8/20 (today) so maybe it will be open starting tomorrow.  Other than that I don’t see much on the east (rest of 26 is good, as are 800, 260, 255, 536, 78 etc.

Of course detours are always posted, but often they suck (more major roads) and take you far out of the way. And of course you may be able to find your own detours (a GPS helps) hopefully on paved roads, or just ride through the construction site if you’re adventurous enough and your bike can make it ;)

If I have additional info I’ll post it later or you can find me at Mail Pouch and pick my brain (bring beer).

A last minute release from home restrictions means I CAN come to the FB. I've squirreled away all of my camping gear from my trip to Alaska last month, so I think I'd like to share a room with someone if they've got space. I'm a non-smoker but sometimes snore lightly.

Anyone have a room to share?

Thanks.

Geoffrey - glad to see you've been released from home confinement. Did you get to remove the GPS tracking ankle bracelet too?? All kidding aside, will be great to have you at MPFB. I'm looking forward to getting some Ride for Kids raffle tickets. Keep up the good work, and ride safely.

After being gone for 8+ weeks to Alaska this summer, I hesitated to even broach the topic of being gone for a weekend. She asked if I had any plans for the weekend, and that seemed like the perfect chance to mention the possibility. And she really surprised me when she suggested I go since I hadn't been able to do any RFK stuff earlier in the summer. It helped that I made plans to take the young lady (that is how you refer to YOUR wife as well, isn't it) to a place of her choosing on an upcoming weekend.
