Title: Other Riding Challenges
Post by: Brick on April 05, 2017, 10:53:40 PM
I also belong to www.sc-ma.com and have been lucky to have participated in two of there Three Flags Classic rides in past years. And I'm registered for the 2017 3 Flags ride.

On the SC-MA home page it says: Proudly Serving the Long Distance Riding
Community Since 1968. As such they have quite a few long rides but most center around California.

This one does not and while National and is supposed to be done within the year.. it changes each just a little.

Not in one year but I have been lucky enough to have ridden 12 of the 15 listed for this year. I missed #12 but have tried twice but it was not possible because of the weather. I've also not ridden #13 & 15.

How many have you ridden?

Also I don't understand how the Southern California Motorcycle Association gets all the volunteers that put on all of these very work and time involved events each year? We are constantly having trouble getting volunteers!?!?

All of 'em. However, some have been over 25 years ago and need to be done again. I re-rode the Kancamagus Hwy after STAR last year but we went north to the Gaspe and I didn't return to Acadia NP. It took three tries to get over the Beartooth and actually see it, finally in 2011 enroute to Alaska. While attending Billings MOA rally a couple of years ago the Going to the Sun road was blocked by a fire, but we'd ridden it 1990. STAR 2014 enabled me to do Iron Mtn Rd (again). So, I am quite fortunate and feel I could add some to that list, but once is never enough.

#s 4, 6, 7 (done all BRP), 9 & 11.

Regarding the volunteers in Southern CA; I'd bet one of the reasons is a heck of a lot of people in that part of the world.

I've ridden some of these, some more than once
1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 11

Others I came close and woudl have done but weather/road conditions stopped
3 - Lolo Pass - was heading to Missoula and wanted to ride it but storm was coming from Lolo
5 - same trip as 3, went to Glacier in early June before road was open, then snow storm hit anyway

Many of these were ridden while atending an MSTA event, or on a trip after an event with other members.

Roger I knew you would have hit them all. I wanna be you when I grow up!

I guess I'm a light weight, with 350,000 miles of riding I only have 4,6,7 and part of 10. #2 was in an SUV of all things so that doesn't count.  TM

I've got 11 of the 15 including 1,3,4,5,6,7,10,11,12,13, and 15.
Roger White is an inspiration to me as well as another local guy, Richard Hilten. When I plan on going in a direction, I make tentative plans and then confer with Roger and Richard to make sure I'm maximizing my fun factor. They are two of the brightest lights in the motorcycling community.

Like Brick, I want to be both Roger and Richard when I grow up.

Sounds like you need to get out west more often. :)

This really surprised me since I consider myself more of an adventurer than a serious tourer but I've ridden all except 3, 12, 13 and 15.
