Secret Sandwich Society - Fayateville WV - CLOSED
« on: June 27, 2021, 03:02:05 PM »
Was browsing some info online and found this, a favorite lunch destination for club members, particularly during MPFB and FCR who go to the New River Gorge Bridge area, is currently closed after a fire they had Nov 2020.

Browsing other options in the area I see there is an ice cream place, which I was looking for a few miles later in the Chimney Rock Gauley Bridge area...

At the other end of the parking lot from SSS and the convention and visitors' bureau is another good restaurant - The Station.

I've eaten at the Station before (under multiple different names) and have heard of Pies and Pints from others that have stopped there. Posted about SSS mostly because I knew some of our members liked to go there. What caught my attention was I was viewing the area on Google Maps and so no sign of SSS, but instead a place called "The Grove" and also showed Pies and Pints there, but not their location. So I wondered what happened, and searched the web for more info.

I still remember, long ago (15-20years) during a Mail Pouch event when we rode WV16 down that way, there was a lunch stop just a ways south of town right on 16, some kind of Tex-Mex, appears to now be "The 304" and "Charlies Pub".

Will see if I stop by Glen Ferris Inn for lunch during MPFB, another regular spot for some. I know they had some ownership changes in the last few years.

Also a heads up some of the gas stops on 16 (Smithville, Grantsville) may not have gas (no prices on signs at either location). We stopped at the one in Smithville, where a nice pavilion was erected last year with picnic tables, a welcome spot on a hot sunny day.

SSS had a fire last November.  They currently have a rebuilding fund raising effort on their web page.  I was confused by Google maps, too.  The original Pies and Pints is a stop I've wanted to make for years, but It's more of a dinner place than lunch and I'm always passing through.
