Welcome to Fall Colors 2021!!! I've heard that some folks have had a little difficulty in receiving the agreed upon rate of $95 a night. The people at the desk have a problem finding our reservation. I have had quite a discussion with Christin this morning, and here's the scoop. They have changed general managers, and there have made changes in their staff. Their main problem is an inability to hire anyone that wants to work. Seems that's a common problem these days! Why work, when you can do just as well sitting on your butt?!!
When you call, refer to the block of rooms reserved for the MSTA with a group ID# 4133968, and the special rate of $95 a night. If the person at the desk can't figure it out, go on and make the reservation at their normal rate of $140, and ask them to make a note under special requests for the MSTA. Don't sweat it, and If all else fails, I'll get it straight with management. Thanks for understanding, and I'm looking froward to seeing everyone. Syd Mayes

Hello everyone! Fall Colors is almost here, and if the event goes half as smoothly as Fly By week, I'll be extremely happy. Once again, Norm Kern did an excellent job with all facets of the event. It was a great pleasure to see many other members that I hadn't seen in quite a while. Just made my reservation, talked to Jo, and she knew what she was doing. Once I said I was with MSTA she gave me the royal treatment :) Even without going last year I was "still in the system" and got my room booked for Thursday arrival.
Now I pray this early fall weather doesn't turn to winter before the end of the month.

I just made reservations. Looking forward to another MSTA event this year. Now lets hope for good weather. I just spent this past weekend at TWO of Suches with my Son on our DR650s, and the weather was perfect for riding and camping.

I usually don't sign up for the dinner thing on Thursday, we have a long day ride from NE Ohio and rarely get in early enough to join the group. So its Ruby Tuesday for us Thursday night.
Hmm I see a place in the strip mall in front of hotel (next to Shoney's) called Habanero's Mexican Grill, is that new, have people tried it? Might be an alternative to repeated dinners at Ruby Tuesday and is a short walk.

Thanks I thought there was another eatery in that spot before, Google street view showed it closed/boarded up. The reviews looked pretty good and most were within last 2 years. I'll definitely give it a try, Ruby Tuesday is OK but can be really crowded Fri/Sat nights.

Has anybody visited the Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory north of Waiteville WV? (Not far from Paint Bank)
Curious what the road conditions are getting there, and if the approx 1 mile hike from the parking lot was worth it.

We were there a couple of years ago, very cool. It is quite a view up there! The roads to get to trail head are not a problem. Take rt. 600, it's the side road road next to the lodge in Paint Bank. Follow it to Limestone Hill rd, also called rt 15. Park when you get to the trail head, there were signs there at our visit. The climb is not bad, very large rocks at the end of the trail. Heavy boots will help, if you have them. There are bears in that area, also.

Thanks Steve I had a feeling I could get some feedback from the fine folks in the MSTA.. We'd be making the hike in our riding gear, not the best boots for the job. I know one of the FCR routes goes past there on 600 so that would make it an easy detour. (But that is a boring road as I recall, much rather ride 311 up and over the mountains when I get to Paint Bank). Will see what develops and keep it in mind.
As for the bears, I can imagine, that entire area of WV/VA seems ideal for them, had a cub run across the road one year on a ride in the area.

A pair of binoculars is a good idea, if you want to carry them!

In all the years I have ridden that area I have yet to see a bear.

It looks like we will have a record group for the Early Bird Dinner on Thursday night! If you are towing, or just have a four wheel vehicle, please give us a hand transporting folks to Food and Friends Thursday night. We will be leaving the Quality Inn parking lot around 6:10 to start ferry⁰ing folks to the restaurant. We'll aĺ meet in the QI parking lot by 6:10. So far, I've had a problem finding a public mode of transportation to take a larger group, but I'm still trying. Love you guys, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone! Please forgive me if I don't remember everyone's name immediately! It's been a long two years, and my brain isn't quite as sharp as it once was! I will be forwarding further information about the menu. They have a "bus menu " which may insure faster service for you, if you find an item you like. I will try to upload the menus here for you. You are welcome order anything you wish from the menu, but some entrees may require a little more time. I assure you that you will be satisfied with whatever you chose. Updates may follow! Way to go Syd. Glad to hear we may have a record turnout, and it's definitely been a long couple years. Steve and I (along with a 3rd) will be heading down Thursday, but don't expect to get there in time for the group dinner. Y'all have fun, we'll see you in the hotel lot later for refreshments.

That means we'll start ferrying people to the restaurant at about 6:10, meeting in front of my room (117). A SPECIAL NOTICETO ALL WHO WILL BE ON 4 WHEELS!!!!, PLEASE TRY TO HAVE YOUR VEHICLE PREPARED TO HELP CARRY FOLKS BACK AND FORTH TO THE RESTAURANT!!! This would be extremely helpful. I am in Lewisburg, sipping on a beverage right now, and I'm excited about the Ride and the weather! See 'ya when you get here. Syd
