Interesting discussion regarding closed roads, I've used a similar site from Ohio DOT, mostly on the phone now with an app (OHGO). Can be a real headache on a long full day ride with early sunsets.

I will have to check out that WV site, I see the Road Conditions check box and a CLOSED red color used, but didn't see any on the map. Highways 20 and 16 in WV are my two common north-south routes.

Yes, both great roads and there was some damage reported south in Fayetteville county but I don't know if 16 was affected.

Sorry to report that my brother Richard and I won't be attending after all. The weather combined with a couple of other factors made this just a bad idea at this time. I know some others who were planning to go were concerned and may have cancelled as well. This has always been a tough event with potential for bad weather, early sunsets and a long 350+ mile route to the event.

Hopefully Chris won't get discouraged if there are a lot of cancellations.

I decided to cancel as well.  I can deal with shorter days, low sun, and a ~500 mile ride to Lewisburg, but the high probability of significant rain on 2 out of 4 days just killed it for me.  I would have started and left a day early if rain was just forecast on Sunday, but riding down Wed and back on Friday is too short a trip.  I rode about 350 miles of the way home from Lewisburg (not MSTA) in the rain last year, and that can happen on any trip regardless of the forecast.  But I'm getting too old to find planning to ride in the rain to be adventurous.  And I was really looking forward to this meet.  (May ride down on my own next week.)

I hate it, but I'm not going to make it either. After all the years that rain was predicted for TriSTAR and then we had great weather, I was hoping it would work out otherwise. But the forecast isn't just a little rain. It's a lot of rain for several days. And it's not JUST rain...it's also heavy wind gusts...the kind that move you from one lane to another or worse.

As posted yesterday by my brother Steve, it's a shame that this major weather event is causing such havoc for this event. Chris, the event organizer, please don't get discouraged. I have a feeling this may be a very small turnout for some rather hardcore diehards. Prayers go out to all in the path of Ian and it's aftermath.

As it turned out the weather impact from Ian reached pretty far north, making a local ride on Saturday limited to the park roads near home rather than a run into our better back roads south of Canton. Our Friday ride to the Historic Bealsville Diner was chilly and mostly cloudy.
