Title: Hey locals!
Post by: James on June 17, 2021, 10:31:18 AM
Just wondering if there are any other members in or around the great state of Delaware? If so, anyone interested in a monthly (weekend) ride or maybe a bike night sort of thing?

Check your MSTA Bluebook and send those locals an email as we don’t get a lot of traffic here on the forum. -JEP-

Thanks for the tip. New member here. I haven't seen the blue book yet.

You can download a PDF version of the Bluebook from the MSTA Members Only section of DOWNLOADS (on the top menu)

I see an opportunity for you then...you become the Delaware State Director and recruit some other riders to the association. Do that, and you are no longer the only member in your state.

I haven't browsed the Blue Book in a while but I recall we had some members in the Philly area which can't be too far from anywhere in Delaware which is a very small state. Probably some members in Maryland too, which may be nearby.

Welcome aboard James, and don't be discouraged by lack of local members at this time. Geoffrey is right that its a great opportunity for you to build something there. If you're into traveling and seeing other places I suggest trying to attend a regional event this year. STAR which was last week was in Canaan Valley WV, not too far away, Fall Color Ride (late September) is in Lewisburg WV which is a bit further for you, as is the Mail Pouch Fly By (late August) in Marietta OH. Going to an event and meeting other members is a real good way to see what this club is about, and be able to promote it to others. A strong local group can be critical, but if that group doesn't attend some of the events they are missing out on a big part of the experience.

PS  This was mentioned at STAR and I was not familiar with it, for every member that joins the club and lists you as the one who brought them in, you get a ticket entered in the annual bike drawing (done at STAR each year). That is a great benefit for recruiting members.
