Title: Lodging options
Post by: Patmo on March 06, 2021, 07:20:42 AM
Recently a couple of people were informed that there were no more rooms at the Lodge available in the MSTA block. We checked with the sales manager and found out this was a mistake on the part of some new staff.  However, as the number of people registering for the event continues to grow (over 200 as of now!) there is the possibility that it could sell out.  But don't fear if it does, there are options in the area.  There are several Mom and Pop type motels, cabins, houses, and camp grounds with a few miles or more of the resort.  Most of which are not used very much in the summer (its a ski area primarily and they have been really busy this winter). Start your search by going to www.canaanvalley.org.

I reserved online a couple weeks ago thru their website and had no issues, and even got my confirmation number, though that says "pending property acceptance". Since I noticed they charged me the "deposit" portion already I sure hope I have a valid reservation.  ;)

I'm still looking for either a group to chip in for a cabin, or to chip in on an available room in one.

Bump:

I'm still looking for either a group to chip in for a cabin, or to chip in on an available room in one.

There are still 12 cabins of different sizes available.
Attention: Anyone who would like to stay in a cabin or cottage (bathroom(s), full kitchen, bike right outside, trees, deer, fresh air), or even just discuss it, please contact me.

I am willing to become a "cabin master" for a group of two to four (singles or couples) of us. The cottages have four bedrooms (three twins, one queen) and two full baths.

Larry

Added: I have one interested so far!

Sunday bump.

It's nice to be able to walk 20 feet from your room to your bike. Plus, I'm bringing fixings for brownies, which is why I want a kitchen.

Update: We have secured a 3-br cabin, with three of us humans so far. We can hold a couple more, sharing a two-twin-bed room, but if we get another rider interested soon, we can see if a 4br cottage is still available. It will cost less per person.

New update: We managed to get a great deal on an upgrade to a 4-bedroom cottage, and, as of now, we have all four rooms spoken for. The other two guys seem to prioritize privacy over cost, as do I, and the fourth is a couple, so we probably won't end up with two in any other rooms, but we all know how things can change.

The lodge is sold out for this event, but there are still a few cabins open as of this morning. If you're interested in attending, let me know, and I'll send you the name and number of the right guy to talk to there. The desk people mistakenly told me there were no more cabins available.

By the way, the couple will be riding up from Texas, and asked me about good riding roads approaching Canaan from that direction. Do any of you have any suggestions I can forward to them? It seems to me that the Google maps route would be great, coming through Elkins.

My riding buddy reserved a room for two in the lodge. He has had an accident and will not be attending. I either need to cancel the room and find a room in a cabin, or find someone looking to split the room I have with me.
I'm a non smoking, occasional light snoring, BMW riding, light drinker. I've been an MSTA member since 1987.

Is the buddy you are talking about Gary? If so I hope he is ok.

Gary is fine, but he is not coming. Jeff Turner had an accident, he is home now recovering.

You can access the download of the Bluebook directly in the Members Only section of this forum.

I've requested to join a group, I assume it's the members only group?

Does anyone know how to access the Blue Book so I can contact Woovis?

I’m confused (normal situation). Here’s my questions for people wanting to access the Bluebook.

Are you a dues paying member of the club?

If so, have you requested full MSTA Member status for this forum?

Or

Do you already have full MSTA Member status for this forum?

If so, you should be able to access both the Members Only section of this forum AND the Downloads.  In either case you should be able to download a digital copy of the Bluebook to your computer, tablet, and/or smart phone.

If you would prefer to have a printed copy, you can either: print out your own copy OR request a printed copy be sent you when you renew your membership. If you’ve not yet joined the club as a full member, when you do you will receive a printed copy in your new member packet.

Short of that, if you do Facebook and have not already done so, join the MSTA Facebook group and the STAR 2021 Facebook group.  You can message others through those groups or via Facebook Messenger.

Sometimes if somebody is requesting contact info and I know (or can confirm thru Blue Book) that they are a member I will just send them the contact info directly.

I presume that Falco Fred was not a full MSTA Member on this site, but is now (I see that under their name). Maybe he's got what he needs now.

As for the Facebook groups, that's a good way to contact some members, but not everybody is on FB and some who are fit the "hardly use it" group, and I believe Woovis falls into one of those 2 categories.

Heck I've noticed over the last 5 years that some people rarely check (or respond) to emails, but a text or phone call is more likely to work (if they recognize your number or explain who you are).

I am and have been a full MSTA member since 1987. My first STAR was at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground. Back then HSTA members were young enough to sleep in tents on the ground. I'm old, but still tent several times a season.
I'm do not frequent this forum often, and I didn't realize that I had to ask permission to become a 'Full' member and get access to the Blue Book.

I don't use FB

I agree that most people only answer phone calls from recognized numbers. That is why I texted Woovis when someone provided me his number. Woovis is looking for a cabin for he, his Wife and dog.

I'm still looking for anyone who wants to split a room.

John,
Perhaps giving you real name might be helpful. LOL.

He did that, several posts ago (on page 1), its also in his profile, if you click on it you'll see it.

John/FalcoFred,
The forum just requires member to request member access in order to get to the members only area where things like the Blue Book and GPS routes are posted and intended only for paying members.

PS  I know I can be a bit testy at times, but I'm seeing it from people here that don't normally exhibit that behavior. I think this past year plus has worn on us all, and we need to get out and ride, attend an event and remember why we're members of this fantastic club. Look forward to seeing many of you in about a month at Canaan Valley
