Title: Fall Colors 2016
Post by: DirtFlier on October 01, 2016, 05:43:35 AM
Many thanks to Sid Mayes for putting on a great event.  We had 51 members come through Registration yesterday so we had a strong turnout in spite of dire predictions of rain for Thur-Fri.

Nice!  One of these times I'm going to make that event!

Anyone stop by and see the "Barnwood Builders"?

I couldn't get away Friday, so I came to the area on Saturday. Today I went riding with some of the VA folks, and we had an excellent day.

Keep it coming Syd...your efforts are appreciated.

Another great MSTA event, good roads, great friends, fantastic time. A little rain didn't keep us away and we had a 350+ mile back road trip to make it. My brother is taking the long way home today to get some more curvy roads in before returning to flat/straight Michigan. He said its another nice day for riding.

 :)
Thanks Syd for the hard work and organizing another fine FCR. My second one in a row, and I'm thinking to add this to my permanent ride calendar. Thanks to Tosh and Debbie for helping with registration, and to the master route planner as well. A big shout out to Norm Kern for helping get my $%^&*(%^&* GPS unit working properly with the routes. All told, I logged 1586 miles from leaving my house to returning, and lots of fun. Some rain on way down, but I didn't melt. And for those interested, the 2016 STAR Raffle Bike now has just shy of 3,700 miles on it. Been a great riding season so far.

Thanks so much for the kudos guys, and you might also thank the Lord for beautiful riding days on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was the only day I rode, and it was perfect in every way. I'm also very grateful that I've not heard of any incidents, except for the brakes locking up on John Boyd's GS on the way down. Is it that, when you ride a Beemer, you have to have a chase car along driven by Tom Rannebarger?? ;D I'm sure riding with Tom was as exciting as the GS!

The final head count, according to receipts and the Waiver signatures was 61 attendees. I'm very happy with that, considering the Michigan contingent came on their own this year, and they usually bring 20 to 25. I'm hoping that some of them will join us again next year, but that they are respectful enough not to repeat the same time-same place scenario we had this year. I thought our Thursday night dinner went very well, and both the kitchen and the wait staff did an excellent job. I'm very interested in hearing other comments about that. I know some of the attendees went back to our previous host, Del Sol, for dinner one of the other nights we were in Lewisburg.

As you know, there was some confusion about room prices this year, so the manager and I had a discussion on Wednesday afternoon, and I believe we're good. He has promised to maintain the same $79.95 rate for next year! I will be signing a contract to that effect shortly. I had researched other options, and come up with a couple of attractive ones, but nothing better than where we are. Next years dates will be 9/29 thru 10/1, with the Thursday night dinner on the 28th.

Thanks to everyone who lent their time and energy to share the workload with routes, websiite, loading routes, registration, transportation, and clean up. You all made it so much easier for me. Thanks for coming, and I look forward to an even larger crowd next year. Syd :D

Syd,
Was that big group from PA/NJ MSTA members, they rolled in Friday pulling a trailer with about 5-6 bikes or more in the trailer and pickup (a clean Superhawk, VFR400, etc). Don't remember folks coming from that area in the past, so was a big curious (and forget to mingle with them some to talk).

Glad things are in order for next year, that's a nice location.

I'm glad to get this event on my next year's calendar early this time around. Maybe I can make more than just a single day next year and soak in more local ambiance along with friends from all over the east coast.

I've put it on the calendar and unless there is a family conflict, I will plan on being there.

And I have your posts on my calendar! ;D I'll expect to see you two next year. I hate to admit it Steve, but I don't know if those folks were part of our group or not? If they weren't, some of us should have talked to them, and it would have been a perfect time to discuss the MSTA.

I'd also like to thank Bryan for taking so many great photos! It was appreciated, because I usually have much time to do that. Syd :)

Syd :D

Did I really just read this right.....the Michigan contingent had an event in the same town and on the same weekend as our MSTA event.....  Really, Really..... seems like there are....oh, about 100 other towns they could have chosen on that particular weekend to get together....wow!!! Please don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining....

I'm surprised you hadn't heard! Same thing at Mail Pouch. Don't let's get started on that thing again. I've received reassurance that it won't be a problem in the future. If I were going to pee on your leg, I wouldn't say anything. I'd just run like hell! :D

Ditto! Bryan rode with my group on Friday and Saturday and got some nice pictures. I used to take a lot more pictures in the past, but now I find when I'm leading I have many other priorities when we take a break. But shooting video while I ride has been very enjoyable, just started watching some last night, and forgot how wet and cloudy it was Friday when we started out (was already about 11AM). We look to be crawling around some of those tight back roads.

PS In Clay WV (on 16 north of Gauley Bridge) we ran into a group of riders and started chatting. Rich mentioned winning the BMW (he'll be smiling for years) and they guy said no way. We pointed to the MSTA license plate frame, and I pulled out an ITR to give them. One guy was from Marietta and said he may have run into us at the hotel during our event in August (Mail Pouch). We later saw them pass our lunch stop in northern WV.
