Title: "Just for Fun" rides
Post by: peabody on April 29, 2016, 06:41:58 AM
Curious why "Just for Fun" is the term used for local get togethers / rides? Don't the vast majority of us ride "Just for Fun"?
I know that there is a difference between these rides and MSTA rallies, but the designation of "Just for Fun"seems to imply that the MSTA rallies are NOT fun.
I would wager that a very, very small percentage of motorbike riders do NOT ride "Just for Fun"......couriers and motor cops come to mind.
Just sayin
Have fun!

You are correct....ALL of our event are "just for fun", so maybe using this term to designate only certain events is not that accurate.  Not sure who/when/why this term was coined, but as long as everyone understands the difference and what the name implies, I don't see any problem.

It's just an easy way of saying that you don't have to register, you don't have to pay, and you don't have to be an MSTA member.  JFF events are usually pretty brief, too.

I'm riding to Stillwater, OK, tomorrow for lunch with some of the KS and OK folks.

Next Saturday (May 7) is our annual Roy's BBQ RTE in Hutchinson, KS.

Both just for fun events; anyone's welcome.

(BTW: I'll buy a slice of pie for anyone who shows up at the May 7 RTE with a current MSTA membership card.)

Roger,
Well said, and the JFF info is on the MSTA website-under the Event tab
"Just for Fun Gatherings are not MSTA/AMA sanctioned “events”. These are informal gatherings with no registration, no agenda, no scheduled meetings, no provided meals, and no published routes. Just like-minded friends gathering to ride. MSTA membership is not required. Contact the listed coordinator with questions".
Thank You for your support
Dennis

PIE?!?!

Oh... Wait... I have another ride planned for that day already.  It's just going to be for fun.

Maybe next year if the pie offer still stands.
