Title: Ohio Lodging Advice
Post by: ff73148 on January 28, 2018, 12:13:57 PM
Me and some of my friends are looking to ride the roads in Southeast Ohio. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to stay. We would prefer a good motel with the bikes parked out in front of the rooms. Or a bike friendly hotel.
Thanks.

Thanks Brick, but we are looking to do a June ride. Any hotels/motels you are familiar with around Athens?

If you want to stay in Athens, there are several chain hotels out the east side of town off of E State St and just off 32/50 highway.  Several restaurants out that way to.  But the nicest hotel is probsbly the Ohio University Inn and Conference Center, back near the University and the center of town.   You may also consider staying in Marietta, Ohio too.  And if you stay there the MPFB hotel, a Best Western, or the Choice Hotel across the street are fine. But I think that the Microtel yust off I-77 is a better choice for a small group because of price and location. You should also look into possibly renting a cabin in the Hocking Hills area.

If you want to stay in Marietta, go to the Best Western. That's the host hotel for Fly-By WEEK this year.

I think the Choice Hotel you mention is the Quality Inn, there's also a Red Roof Inn next door. And a super 8 at that I-77 and OH7 junction across from Microtel, with a Shoney's an easy walk, as well as a Kroger's for groceries and beverages.

Most of the places mentioned are not "park right outside your motel door" types, they're central hallway room access. I haven't stayed in any non-chains in Marietta, so hard to say if any are good.

All of these places are somewhat limited with dining options in walking distance, as walking to other places means a long walk to get across the two large roads at this junction.

I see you are coming from NJ, so depending on how deep into SE Ohio you want to stay another location I might recommend is Cadiz Ohio. This area has seen a boom in the oil & gas industry, as a result a few new hotels have been built in town.

PS  If riding in SE Ohio, and passing through Bealsville around meal time, try the Historic Bealsville Diner (52733 Ohio Ave)

555 to Marietta via OH-676 is 26 miles of fun. I enjoy 676 more than I do 555.

You almost can't go wrong in with any direction you go from Marietta.
Some veteran members that had VFR's may remember COTU in Marietta. A discussion began about good roads to ride on the VFR forum. As forums do (or was it a "list") the thread grew quickly. The talk/debate turned to the "fact" that SE Ohio was the center of the universe for great MC riding. So to prove it an event was set up in Marietta and many forum members and guests came to SE Ohio to find out. They were not disappointed and we had a great time. Even the guys who came from Jersey!  Enjoy!

You can always go to www.ridemsta.com and there you will find a listing for 2018 Events. At this time of the year the schedule can change but I think the MPFB is set August 20 - 24, 2018.

Or, head a little further west and attend STAR in La Crosse, WI, June 10-14.  Many great roads and Adventure rides planned.  Come early, stay late.  There will be people there on Saturday as well as late the next week, after the official STAR ends on Wednesday night.  There is enough planned for more than a week.  Make it a family vacation.
Check out the details under events on the forum, and STAReview.
