MSTA Daytona Bike Week Just-For-Fun
« on: September 23, 2016, 01:38:57 PM »
When: March 10-12, 2017
Where: Quality Inn, 3434 SW College Road, Ocala, Fl
Description: We have put together a GREAT weekend of fun and frolic for our members, far and wide!!  This is a great lead in to Bike Weeks!!  And, on the following Thursday, we have our MSTA Lunch Ride!!

Don't delay in making your reservations, as this arrangement will expire sooner than you think.  Read through the details below, secured by a couple of excellent planners!!  A big THANKS to them, and we'll see you there!!

Stay tuned for further event details and ride ideas...

Hotel Telephone 352 854-3200

Room rates are greatly discounted for this time of year. We have a block of 10 rooms at $99 a night, before taxes. This includes a hot breakfast, heated pool, 24 hour fitness center, WiFi throughout the hotel, and cookies and milk from 8:00-9:00 PM each evening. :)

We have protected the price($99) for March 9th in the event that anyone from out of the area would like to arrive on Thursday for a good night's sleep and an early start the next morning on Friday, the 10th.

Keep in mind that not only are these dates the start of Bike Week in nearby Daytona Beach, it is also the heart of our tourist season so rooms may start to disappear quickly. Just call the telephone number above and reserve as soon as you know you can make it. You can cancel 24 hours prior to the date of your reservation. Any un-reserved rooms in the block of rooms will cancel on Friday, February 24, 2017.

Just refer to the MSTA block of rooms when you make your reservation.

Hmmm... too many really cool new races at Daytona this year. I've got to go! It should be 32 degrees in about an hour... I'll be on the road. Wanna follow? Click here: https://spotwalla.com/publicTrips.php?un=Brick64

I'll watch what I can on TV, but we are actually leaving down here tomorrow and working our way back north.  Some stops along the way and we will be back home by Tuesday.  Cloudy and very cool this morning but still much better than it is back home, so I can't complain.  Should be good for the weekend.

Watched the Flat Track last night. It was a TT track in the infield! So very narrow with an S curve on one side and... a hump... what they were calling a jump. I was pretty skeptical but as they got more time on the track we got to see some good racing! Yamaha won the 450 singles and Indian came in 1st and 2nd in the 750cc class. Proves that if you throw lots of money at it and hire three of the best racers... you'll win! A Yamaha was in second place for a bunch of laps but he lost it. There were also a lot of the 650 Kawasakis in the race.
All in all some good racing.

Today I tried to go see the 100 year old board track bikes run... but I really didn't want to pay $50!
But I did get to go see the Clash on the Concrete! Fun stuff!

Tomorrow the 200 race. Should be lots of fun too!

Doesn't look like attendance was anything worth talking about!

Bikes I did demo rides on...

And the winner by a long shot is the Yamaha FZ07! It also had these accessories.
But you know the Harley Streetrod was kind of fun too. And I really like the new Harley 108 motor. Lots of power. Just not me by a long shot.

According to Cycle News, the results of the TT were as follows: 1st-2nd Indians, 3rd Kawasaki, 4th H-D, 5th, 6th Kawasaki, 7th Yamaha, 8th-10th Kawasaki.  No mention of what happened to the 3rd Indian rider and you're right about Indian being talent rich because those three have won every AMA championship for the last 5-years.

In ref to big (yuge!) wheels/skinny tires: I thought it looked stupid and possibly dangerous when fitted to a 80s-90s domestic sedan but perhaps even more stupid and dangerous on a motorcycle?   :-\

ps.  Brick - how was the Harley XG-750 demo ride?

I was pleasantly surprised by the XG-750. But they force the seat down so that it's low so the foot peg to seat relationship is kind of strange. So my knees were pretty high. Motor was very good. I think in a different chassis it could make a really good adventure type bike.

I have a riding pal who has the 500 version H-D bike and he's happy with it.  It's quiet, doesn't shake or vibrate, and so far has been leak-free.   :)
