Got rear ended by a pretty young girl in a Toyota today. Was behind a short line of cars on a rural road, everyone slowed for the first car to make a left turn, except the girl behind me. I heard squealing tires and looked in the mirror and saw an orange sedan closing fast. I let of the brakes and swerved right onto the shoulder to avoid the pickup truck in front of me but felt an impact and saw something fly past on my right into the ditch. That was my right saddle bag. I came to a stop and parked. The other vehicle and three witnesses also stopped. The Toyota had a lot of front end damage. Everyone was amazed I did not go down, including me.
I had pinned my bags ( a Concours owner trick to prevent wayward bags) but the left pin had recently been lost and replaced with a zip tie. That broke, allowing the bag to fly off. Both of the latches that secure the bags to the bike were snapped off. The pin on the left bag was pretzeled but held, the bag pivoting on it and sticking straight up. The license plate is mildly crumpled and at first I thought the rear fender was mangled as it looked sideways and all crazy. Further inspection showed it was ok, just had a piece of Toyota inner fender wrapped around it! My pretty carbon fiber slip on was broken in two
Had four different LEO jurisdictions on hand, very helpful. Two were riders themselves. One provided some very large zip ties (probably used as cuffs in other scenarios) to secure my bags as well as the Toyota's fender.
The biker leos hung around after the paperwork to make sure I could ride home ok. When I cranked her up they both said in unison: "sound great!" lol

Bob - The main thing is that you weren't hurt in the accident. :-)

The old saying applies here. "It's always something"!! Glad you were alert and saved your own bacon.
And of course there are the spares (bikes and parts). TM

Glad it's only spare bike parts you need. Lucky the squealing tires got your attention, or it could have been so much worse.

And the time and ability to make repairs.
Glad you're ok and it hasn't ruined your trip to STAR. I hope bad things don't come in 3s :)

Now wait just a minute...
You were rear ended by a pretty young girl. And your picture is of a couple of young ladies pushing (I'm assuming) your bike. What's up with all of the pretty young ladies?

Well, turns out Connie did not win after all. Closer inspection revealed damage to the main frame and the left side frame plate.
I am pretty sure she will be totaled.

Oh man, that totally stinks! Won't say it's a slam dunk, but every situation where there has been frame damage that I know of, it's a total. Gonna guess that STAR is a no-go now?

Arkansas member Scott Stewart (originally from LA) to the rescue. We are driving to his place Thursday to borrow his BMW 1150RT. Not even TWO broken bikes can keep us from STAR!

Way to go Scott!
I'll see you there, leaving in just a few minutes.

Gotta agree with Pat on this. Any kind of frame damage, unless it's virtually new bike will likely result in total. Just the labor alone to take everything off one frame and then reassemble onto a new replacement frame would be big $$$$. Sorry it turned out this way, but glad you still get to go to STAR.
