MSTA Sanctioned Event Reports / Kerrville STAR 2024
« Last post by HawkGTRider on October 18, 2024, 07:59:46 am »
About a half dozen of our hard core arrived Thursday (yesterday) with plans to set up registration and "get things ready" on Friday (today). It's the first time I've seen most of these folks since my little incident in Little Switzerland, North Carolina last July, and likewise, they've not seen me since STAR last year either. It feels really good to be back on two wheels and I'm hoping to see a bunch of people here.

I rode a relatively-new-to-me bike this year. It's a 2019 Honda NC750X. I was meandering through the pre-loved bikes at my local Honda dealer one day last spring when I was there to pick up some parts. It's blue (good color for me), standard tranny (not a DCT), and had just a bit over 9,000 miles on it. I made them an offer that wasn't too insulting and it was accepted. I guess I probably rode it to STAR one day last year (I was staying at home and commuting back and forth to the hotel in Knoxville), but this is the first long trip to STAR on this bike. So far so good!
I thought about riding my 2007 BMW F650GS. It's been to 8 different STARs so far. It's a fun bike and pushes lots of the right buttons for me. But I really wanted to see how the NC would do on a good long ride. So far, it's been good.

See you soon?

Glad most the NC area folks I know are ok, anybody hear from Gordon Kay in Clyde or Billy Aklin in Pisgah Forrest?  Hoping for the best for Florida!

I talked with Doug Pippin yesterday.  He’s fine. No power yet but he has generators and his road is now open.

Thanks Bob, good to know. Doug Pippin??   I don't have Facebook so I missed Brick's post.   TM

I’ve been wondering about Doug as well.  Iguana Joe? Chris Parker? How did Abington, Va. fare? Lots of our folks down in the areas really affected.  Now it looks like A LOT of members in Florida are threatened. My brother, who lives along the Tampa Bay has evacuated to St. Augustine.  Says he had 4-6 foot of water in his condo garage after the last storm. Is expecting a total loss after this next one.
I saw Iguana Joe at TWoS last weekend. They've gotten power back...I'm not sure about water...he and Cindy are safe even if not still facing some issues. Chris has been posting pretty regularly about the ongoings at the Big Lynn Lodge. He's must have access to what he needs. I don't think Abingdon was hit particularly hard. US58 east of Damascus (which is east of Abingdon) had a section of road around 12 miles long that is closed and may be quite a while before it's reopened. That section of road is pretty much gone based on the pictures I've seen.
Our friends in Florida are now in for a bad time again with the next hurricane. We'll know more in the coming days.

Doug's wife Diane posted on FB right after the storm that there were about 20 homes in the area where they live and the road in was destroyed, so they were stranded. She later replied to a friend that it was catastrophic.

Doug has not been on the forum in 12 days. He typically uploads the officer and members list around the first of the month.
