Wundermap is dead as a travel tool!
« on: October 11, 2016, 12:04:33 pm »
At STAR 2015, I learned about the most useful weather planning tool for motorcycle touring.  Now that I'm planning my first big tour since that STAR, I found out that Weather Underground killed the feature.  I've looked at Accuweather's toolset, but it won't project weather by location beyond the following 24 hours.  So what has everyone else moved to?

Good question. I know Weatherunderground (https://www.wunderground.com/) used to have a Trip Planner function (is that what you're taking about?) - but I don't see it anymore.

I was looking for it also planning a 2000 mile trip starting tomorrow and could not find it. I am back to using Intellicast's hourly forecast for key spots along my route. Tedious to say the least.

Appears that accuweather has a similar feature, might be others.

Found it with a search on Google for "weather underground trip planner"

Oh my this could be a good tool!
Except I can't find it on the AccuWeather app on my iPhone.

If you must use the tiny screen on your phone, access the accuweather site with your phones browser rather than the app.

I contacted Weather Underground several weeks ago about the disappearance of travel planner but got no response.

DOH  sorry didn't check it out much and forgot about your "beyond 24 hours" remark.
I never really used the other tool much or thought about looking long range. I've been doing that on my own for so long, pick several spots on my route and check weather there. Its all a crapshoot anyway, 50% rain all day on a 250 mile ride could be no rain, or a lone drenching, or lots of rain all day.

Just returned from my trip.  Only saw rain one early morning (5:00 AM), and significant winds on my last travel day.  Ultimately, great weather is a perfect solution, but I'm still looking for better tools to help to plan for the alternative!
