2013 STAR GPS routes
« on: July 05, 2016, 10:29:54 PM »
I know this is a shot in the dark, but, does anyone happen to still have the recommended GPS route files for STAR 2013, Lexington, KY?
Steven

Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous.  It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence, or stupidity.

I have a 5 mb folder of those routes in my documents that I could email to you, if you send me a direct email. I don't know if I can attach that to a forum reply such as this.

I do on my home hard drive but I'm on the road right now. PM me mid August and I'll send them to you. -JEP-

Try this attachment. It's a single file with all of the routes AND some routes that I combined to create some longer rides.

The ones with the name modified as v13.3 were recreated/overlaid using Garmin's 2013.3 maps so that my old GPS wouldn't go berserk.

Geoffrey, what tool do you use to add an attachment to a reply? I don't see an icon that indicates which will do that. Thanks.

I am not used to dealing with gdb, only gpx.  Any difference I should watch out for?

Thanks Fred.  I'm at work right now, and locked out of my personal e-mail.  If I can't get along with Geoffery's file I'll hit you up.

I might have them at home and can look, send me a PM if you haven't gotten them in a couple days.

Also just FYI, we probably should not post actual GPS route files created for an MSTA een in this thread since those are always posted in the Members only area.

Gpx is a more universal format, but either Mapsource or Basecamp will work with either.

Cool, thanks for the tech note.

It's the same thing as attaching a picture to a post. It isn't an option for a Quick Reply/Quote. However, if you do a preview even with them, just below the message box is the "Attachment and other options". Click on that, do a browse for the item you want to attach, and it happens just like magic. I'm glad there are smarter people than me to figure out how stuff like that actually works. I had the file saved along with routes for a bunch of other events over the years.

Thanks for that info, Geoffrey. I don't use that method for pics, just use the lower left icon above that says Insert Image. I never noticed the Attachment and other options at the bottom, but I see it now. Thanks a lot, I learned something today.

I'm learning something too. I always figured the attachment route was the only way to add a picture. I've always wondered how some folks were able to insert a picture and have more message below it. Stuff included as an attachment seems to always be only at the end of a post with no easy way to add additional stuff afterwards.

The more one uses any product, the more proficient and familiar they become with it. So, keep using the Forum and posting. I too don't go often enough, but keep finding things out I didn't know. Thanks for the tips Geoffrey.
