I received the Visitors Guide today and they include a good map of La Crosse and some area towns, with attractions, and many other items shown.

We will see everyone in about 4-1/2 months for some great riding and renewing friendships.

Have you registered for STAR 2018 yet?  If not, check out these two videos for some of the the riding in SW Wisconsin and SE Minnesota.  Then go to the link under events to register.

The first video is of the Great River Road, a scenic byway that follows the Mississippi River.  The video starts in a La Crosse parking ramp, and at 15 seconds takes you on roads.  The elevation changes are gradual in most places as it follows the river, with big sweeping corners and lots of scenery with sandstone cliffs and more.  More details in issue 3701 also.

The next video takes you on a trip to Mindoro Cut about 24 miles north of La Crosse.  This video does not show the elevation changes, as there are many steep climbs and descends throughout the ride.  This is just a sample of some of the roads in the La Crosse area.  Many of the county alphabet roads have many more curves and climbs as they make their way out of the river valley.

These are just a sample of the area roads.  There are over 20 routes planned, with different terrain and lengths.

....

I was about to make this same post....great minds!!!!!

Yes the Visitors Guide is a nice publication and includes a good city map. Most importantly there are lots of coupons for activities, restaurants, bars and micro breweries within walking distance of the host hotel' -JEP-

La Crosse is not spread out like some cities, and the Radisson is right near downtown.  That makes it easy to walk to many great places to see and things to do as RIDEMYST states.  Many of the items that he mentioned are within 5 blocks.  Great for the people that do not go on a ride during the day, or just to take a walk after you get back from a ride, without having to saddle back up for another ride.  Or, just walk across the park and sit and watch the river traffic.

Here is a site to sign up for information for Wisconsin or Minnesota or any state.  Very interesting articles, for each state.  This will give you a lot of ideas of things to see and do along the way to La Crosse, or in your home state.

Got my guide in the mail yesterday. I'll admit that my exploring is often centered around collecting National Park Service passport stamps, but a variety of ideas and things to do is generally a good thing. I've been working on my completely convoluted route to STAR 2018 in LaCrosse and am excited to be going.

If you are wondering what is available for non-riding members in the La Crosse area?
·          Host hotel within blocks of a downtown with many shops, eating establishments and attractions.
La Crosse has trolleys and horse drawn carriage rides, as well as river boat rides.
[/size]·       Many non-riding sight-seeing venues like, National Eagle Center, North American Owl Center, Amish shops, Grandad Bluff, (you can see 3 states) Shrine of our Lady of Guadalupe, Upper Mississippi National Wildlife Refuge, Lock and Dam #7 nearby and watch boats lifted 8 feet by water, and auto museums.·         There are many biking trails and horseback riding stables.·         Great shopping of brand name or locally owned mom and pop type shops.  Also many specialty shops, as well as antique shops.·         La Cresent, MN, just across the river is home to the Apple Capital of Minnesota, with over 15 different varieties of apples grown in the area.
