SIMPLE routes for non-GPS utilize easily identified roads and have fewer turn instructions than other routes.
AVERAGE routes can have a lengthy list of instructions, but roads are generally well marked and easy to follow
COMPLEX routes may include roads that are poorly marked and have many turn instructions. PDF turn-by-turn instructions are provided for most of them, but a GPS with the route loaded in it is highly recommended.
ADVENTURE routes often use dirt roads and trails that are not routeable on a GPS, therefore you must use the provided tracks for navigation. (Most of our Adventure routes are tracks only)
For 2026 forward, our GPX route files will only contain a single TRIP PLANNER version, designated by the "TP" suffix at the end of the route name. These routes use mostly shaping points for compatibility with Garmin zumo XT, XT2, 390 and 590 series, as well as BMW Nav5, Nav6 and all Garmin GPS units that use the Trip Planner App to access routes. These routes also work well with TomTOM and phone apps.
(Do not use ZIP versions if there are last minute route changes- individual routes will be most up-to-date)
Note: To download ZIP files, right-click or control-click the links. Otherwise you may get a 404 error.

RouteType: TECHNICAL, TWISTY
Navigation difficulty: AVERAGE
Distance: 300 miles
Lunch Stop: Great River Roadhouse, DeSoto, WI
Direction from Spring Green: NW COUNTERCLOCKWISE
Comments: Leaves Round Barn, heads to great River Roadhouse. 150 miles of very technical, tight, twisty roads. After lunch, another 150 miles of very technical, tight, and twisty back to Round Barn. If that sounds like too much, here's an idea from Norm: Ride the Insanity route in the morning. If you're getting tired, ride part 2 of the Sane route back- it's easier and only 77 miles.
