Well who knows, I might be up for helping out with getting something together next season.  I did do some searching around and see that John Button is still active.  I did a few rides that he organized years ago when I still lived in N.CA.  Looks like he planned a Paso Robles Ride for this past March (check out http://www.buttonhome.org/ ).  Didn't see a ride report so don't know for sure what happened with that one, but did find an email from Leonard, which I apparently missed, about a ride planned for September.  I'll see if I can connect with them and get updated re: what's happening.  Also just found that the CalMSTA is using Micapeak.Com as a list server for their communications (http://micapeak.com/mailman/listinfo/calmsta), and I just subscribed to it to see what I could find.  This could get interesting!  :^)

Count me in! -JEP-

Syd you're 70!!!!  :o

I'm in the young section of this club at 50. Many of the guys I ride with in Ohio are 60-70, a few others are early 50s. We ain't getting younger. And I hope I can still ride at 70 like many in the club do.

As for an event in SoCal, that would be cool. Have only ridden there a little when visiting my brothers to ride to Lagua for MotoGP.

Yeah, SoCal would be a blast for a STAR. And depending where they ride, I'd probably be able to lead a group if I go, having lived in the area for about 30 years, and ridden quite a few of the good roads out that way.

If they had STAR in So Cal, I wouldn't go.  Living in that mess since I was a kid made me want to move away which I did in 1990.  They've added lots of new freeways since that time but now it seems all of them are just as congested as was the old 405 and 101.  Because of the heavy traffic flow 24/7 it makes repair/repaving difficult-to-impossible so most of the roads are in truly terrible condition.

LA was the site of my last crash...last in that it was the most recent (8 years ago) AND last in that I hope that I won't be having another crash. I'd probably go back and find that stupid interstate interchange just to see it again and try to learn a little more from the previous experience.
It's a pretty long haul from this side of Big Muddy, so I don't know if I'd call it my local riding area. While I've been through parts of California during two Iron Butt Rallies and a 3-Flags Classic, I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface of places to see and go. I suspect I could take an entire summer doing nothing but riding there and still barely scratch it. Maybe an event there is all the impetus I need to take a meandering ride back that way.

Yeah but Tosh we wouldn't be riding on the freeways.

There are some nice rides in So Cal - Rim of the World Hwy, Ortega Hwy, etc - but they all involve getting there using either the freeway or surface streets both of which are heavily traveled and often gridlocked.  Northern CA, north of San Francisco, is completely different with low population density, similar to rural Oregon, and lots of open land.  It also has very few east-west roads so routes will be very long.  Those of you who went to STAR in Mammoth Lakes can attest to that.

I didn't get to go to Mammoth Lakes...are the routes from that event still floating around in someone's files?
