Little Shepherd Trail
(1/1)
Brick:
I STRONGLY recommend all y'all Kentucky folk go ride this. http://www.harlancountytrails.com/littleshepherdtrail.php it's 35 miles of 1 1/2 lane wide asphalt on the spine of a ridge. Plus there is an easy 12 mile gravel option.
In this photo it's in the upper part in KY.
It runs between KY 119 and US 421.

Was there much traffic? I really don't like such narrow roads if there is any traffic, cars just come around the corner right in the middle of the road.
Second how bad was the gravel, would you do it on fully faired street bike (I see both of these ad ADV bikes). Like a VFR, or your nice SV650?
I do really enjoy roads that run along a ridge, offer great views and make you feel like you're on top of the world.
I tried to get clever to find it on Google maps then realized I could just type in Little Shepherd Trail at it will drop the pin on the road and zoom in appropriately to show the small road.

Traffic doesn't exist down there.....but mind the Bears! LOL. It IS a great little road, and Black Mtn. and the road overtop of it is right there also. Great area to explore, but not easy to get to for most people.

We had one car coming the opposite way and we cought up to two autos on the gravel. I wouldn't take a VFR on the gravel. Some of the ruts were pretty deep and some of the up hills were kind of steep. Not a real problem just stay on the paved part.

If you head that way, I reccomend a stop at the Pine Mountain Grill for lunch or dinner. Located at the intersection of SR119 and SR15. The ride up the hill on 119 from there is lots of fun!
