A young man moved his family from the UP of Michigan to California in order to find a job. It did not take long before he found himself in court for poaching. Appearing before the Judge the young man pleaded extenuating circumstances. He was poor and just trying to provide food for his family until he found a job. It was an accident that he happened to have shot a bald eagle, thinking it was a goose. The Judge felt sorry for the young man, remembering his own days as a starving student raising a family. He handed down a lenient sentence of six months community service.

As the courtroom was clearing the Judge asked the young man “So what does bald eagle taste like anyway”? The young man thoughtfully responded, “Well Your Honor, it tastes like a cross between condor and spotted owl.”
