Though I've maintained my MSTA (formerly HSTA) membership, I haven't been active (attended any events) for quite awhile.  Just bought a new bike (Yamaha FJ-09) and the juices are definitely flowing to get out and ride more.  Looking forward to reconnecting and putting on a lot more miles.  Hope to meet many of you on the road.

And welcome back into the fray Steve. I see you live in San Diego, so there should be no issue with getting out and riding. On the other hand, I'm in Michigan and soon it will be time to put up the bike for the winter.  :(

Thanks for the welcome back!  :^)  I lived in Chicago for @10 years before moving to CA.  I know exactly what you mean, and I do appreciate the difference in riding seasons!  Ride Safe!

Hi Steve! Welcome back! I love your choice of new bikes. I'm trying to figure a way to put one of those in my garage too!
I think you should put on a MSTA event and invite us all out there. I would love to ride there some more.

Steve,
I test rode an FJ-09 a couple of weeks back. I've never bought a new bike and don't have room for one now, but I've been thinking about which bikes in the fleet I'd part company with to make room for one of these. I really liked it.

I rented one and rode it 20 days and 5234 kilometers through the Alps last July. I loved it!

Thanks for all of the responses!  I'm feeling very welcome!  :^)

I am really enjoying the FJ-09!  I was looking for something Sport-Touring capable but lighter and more "Sport" than the ST1100.  It definitely fills that bill!  Lots of fun and, once I get the seat sorted out (some people like it but it starts eating my butt after 100+ miles) it will be perfect for getting back into some nice cross-country running and still being able to enjoy the twisties.  Being a new model not everyone has their seat offering out yet.  Corbin does but I'm waiting to see what Sargent does before making a choice.  Sargent should have their seat available after the first of the year.

I'm looking forward to seeing you guys at an upcoming event.  I looked at next years STAR in Vermont, but a friend of mine is really twisting my arm to do a trip to Alaska at the same time.  So I'll try and catch one or more of the other regional gatherings.  I can't find the CA MSTA group!  Are they still active?

At one time CA was very active but a few of the doers pass on and so it seems has the MSTA in CA. Having lived in Ohio during my working years I always wanted to attend a CA event. But like I said I was working. Now that I'm retired and living in Western NC there are no CA MSTA official events. Leonard Lloyd still rides a lot and does put out a newsletter. There are a few more that ride but not much organization. I wish there was more out there.

"If you build it, they will come".....:)

Seriously....I think that if someone tried having a "just for fun" event is so-cal, and gave enough pre-notice and publicity beforehand, they would get a pretty good crowd to show up.  Some people might even be willing to travel a long way to get the opportunity to ride in that area of the country with people that know the area well.

You're exactly right Pat! Welcome back to a long term member. I in no way want to pressure you, but with a little work, and you would receive plenty of help, a just for fun event in your area would probably literally bring the MSTA to  you! I'm from eastern VA., and have ridden across the country several times. At almost 70, I'm ready to do this one more time. All I need is an opportunity! Just say no, if you're not up to it now, or contact me on this forum if you'd even like to discuss it. We need a foothold in your area to help the MSTA rise from the dead in your area. If you aren't prepared for this, I totally understand, and hope to meet you somewhere at another rally. Take care, Syd Mayes:-)
