Out of the country trips.
« on: January 05, 2016, 03:43:36 pm »
Has anyone ever started a thread to take a head-count on members wanting to hook up with other members on 'Out of the Country' motorcycle trips?  I'm ready to go just about anywhere, anytime, but I hate traveling alone.  All of my local riding buddies spend all of their money on $40,000 pickup trucks and $10,000 dirt bikes.

Well I didn't start a thread but when I was planning my trip to Ride the Alps I did post about it.

I also think that taking a trip out of the USA is well something you would want to do with a good friend. Someone you share a way of riding AND someone that you would get along with in a possible stressful situation.

That's just my take on this... YMMV

Brick, did you get anyone interested in joining you?  Or, is everyone afraid to ride with you too?  LOL

Tom....a few of us have made a plan to travel out of the country this coming August.  But it is something that we have been working on since LAST winter.  Traveling out of the country is for many of us a once in a lifetime event most probably...at least via motorcycle.  So it's doubtful that many are going to post up here looking for traveling partners.  However, I do see that kind of thing on AdVrider.com and Horizons Unlimited pretty often.  Don't take it the wrong way if you don't find anyone stepping up and wanting to take off.  It's probably not because lack of interest......more likely to be a lack of time and/or money.

Thanks, Pat.  I guess I've forgotten my 99 cent Banquet dinners and 68 and 78 degree thermostat days.  All my life it seems I've been out of step financially.  When I was a struggling architecture student all of my buddies were working for utility or the phone companies and driving Z28's and with ski boats behind while I was wrenching to keep my Corvair running.

I'll check into AdVrider.com and Horizons Unlimited.  We have so much good single track hardwood dodging trails around here that I get my fix off-road riding locally, so I lean towards sport-touring, smooth pavement, look at the scenery and smell the roses 'out of the country' travel.  Whenever you do get a chance to go on an out of the country trip, don't pass it up or you will be missing out on half of motorcycling life!

I already had my friend Chris going with me. So really wasn't looking to find someone. The more you have on any ride the more chances of problems. However a good group that works well together and rides well together can certainly add to the fun.

It is something I continue to dream about, but limited ability to take a long time off work has me holding off for now. One of the club members in Texas (Russ Weik I think he's on forum) used to live here in Ohio and many of us have remained friends with him. He's gone to Europe many times and often invites us to join him early in the traveling stages.

Also you're only going to reach about 10-20% of the club members here on the forum. So maybe posting on local lists, or talking to members at other events would help.

Good luck and hope you realize your dream of a MC trip in Europe.
