Mazda won Le Mans in 1991 with their prototype endurance racer.  Here is a U-tube video so you can hear the fearsome wail of the engine.  To this date, it's still the only Japanese car that has won Le Mans.  Toyota came close last year but they ran into problems in the closing hours.  :-)

More like closing minutes. That was a heartbreaker for them.  The Mazda didn't sound like that when I was standing track side ay Mid-Ohio but that was really something. Real clutch and shifter too.  TM

Thanks for the link on the Mazda at Le Mans with the vintage car.  Great sound, or shriek noise.  I have never been close to the 4 rotor and heard them, but I have been on the grid with the 2 rotor RX-7 that was not stock and exhaust out the right side, trying to get our driver ready about 4 feet to his right.  That was loud.


This time of year it is fun to hear any loud race motor sounds.


Check out this link for the American Sedan Mustang of Andy McDermid a friend of ours from Michigan.  When Andy wins, which is most of the time, he loves to do burnouts in memory of a good friend of ours, Harvey West, who had the AS Mustang that I crewed on for many years.  There are several more of Andy doing burnouts on youtube.

PMS kicking in already in MN?  I almost went for a ride last weekend but worked on my outside decorations instead. It wasn't even 50 but was sunny and warmer than it will be for a long time, possibly until Spring.

Agree listening to motor sounds, watching some form of racing or playing racing video games are a help in getting through the long winter. Somewhere I have a CD of "bike sounds" that I believe one of the Brit magazines put out. It includes a VFR, not the Gen5 like I have but a newer one, still sounds pretty good.

I went for a ride with pals on Monday because it appeared to be the last tolerable day.  The high temp was close to 60 but since then, winter-like weather has arrived and next week they are predicted daytime highs only in the mid-20s. 

Steve - you should have gone for a ride!

But I did have to stop twice to reapply sunscreen.

Thanks for the reminder Jim. We'll be sure and rub it in during the August swamp weather in Florida. 
And why do you have to reapply sunscreen? You're riding ATGATT aren't you???

That's what I was thinking.  He should be riding ATGATT.  Not only is it safer, you don't need sunscreen, and with a good jacket it is cooler.


Hey, I got an idea, donate the money you saved by riding without the gear to the Dan Clark Safety Program.

Trust me that's usually the decision I'd make. But as the body gets older the desire to spend time in the cold goes down, doing decorations in blizzards was the norm, first at my parents then my own home. Riding in cold temps was also common when I was in my ridining infancy. When the cold weather hit this weekend, I was glad I had my outside decorations done already and was not going to need to spend hours outside.

If I were retired, I'd have a lot more time, and options
