Lynyrd Skynyrd Memorial

NinjaBob:
I was wandering some Mississippi backroads today on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and stumbled upon the Lynyrd Skynyrd Memorial in Pike County. I pulled in and took some pictures and read about the crash that happened in the woods nearby 44 years ago.

Ride4MS:
WOW!  That is very interesting.  I didn't know that there was a memorial at the crash site.  I couldn't remember the whole history of the band.  So I looked it up on Wikipedia.  They have had many unfortunate happenings through the years, and somehow seem to make a very good come back.
And still performing.  That is amazing, having started in 1964.

NinjaBob:
I dis not know the memorial existed either until I rode by today and saw the sign. From what I  read it was just built in October 2019, mainly by the local landowners who saw the plane go down and went to the rescue of the several survivors of the crash..

Thanks for sharing, I too did a little bit of research after reading your post, here's a link to the website related to the memorial site.

I doubt I even knew who they were when this happened, but I do enjoy their music and find their story fascinating.

STLTHMSTA:
I have a copy of the LB "Street Survivors" which was released shortly before the crash. It depicted the group coming out of flames on the cover. A sad premonition indeed. They then pulled the LB's from the stores and replaced it with a flameless picture believing it was in bad taste to leave it as it was. We have lost many a Rocker and a Racer long before their time. I many visit the Nicky Hayden Memorial again on my way to STAR this year.  TM
