Margaret Goodson-OKC bombing victim

(1/2) > >>

Paco Bulto:
Thirty years ago today I was attending the HSTA Telemena rally in Mena, Arkansas. During the Saturday evening meal at the rally HQ, the Queen Wilhamena Lodge we learned that one of our members, Margaret Goodson was killed a few days prior during the Oklahoma City bombing while working at the Murrah federal building. Here is her picture and a little about her as shown on the museum site dedicated to the 168 victims. It is mentioned that her favorite motorcycle trip was to Mena.

STLTHMSTA:
Thank you Fred for reminding us that these victims should not be forgotten. If I remember correctly, I met her husband at STAR that year. A member of ours, Mike Morris, brought him along "because he could use a distraction".  Indeed.   TM

Paco Bulto:
Hi, Tom,

Yes, I had ridden with her husband Ron previously and was looking forward to riding with him again at the Mena rally. A good guy. He dropped out of the HSTA a few years after that and I lost contact.

Ride4MS:
Denise, our oldest son and I stopped to visit the site in Nov, 2001, on our way to Ft. Sill, OK for our youngest son's US Army Basic Training Graduation.  This was just a few months after President George W. Bush dedicated the Memorial site. It was not totally complete at that time, but was still a very somber place to visit. It seemed almost scary and not even kids were doing much talking.
If anyone gets near Oklahoma City, stop in and visit this place. It will give you a new outlook on life and how lucky most of us are to not go through such a catastrophe.
Same thing applies for the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. Nobody talks, not even the kids and no phones allowed to be on.
Thanks for posting this message and the link to the Memorial, even as it is a sad event.

STLTHMSTA:
Well put Carl. And it's hard to believe it's been 30 years. While at STAR this year, the Flight 93 memorial isn't far away. 150 miles is nothing to this crowd, right?  True American Heroes like these should be honored.     Let's Roll!!    TM
