Road closures at Deal's Gap
« on: April 08, 2017, 05:27:02 AM »
If you think you might be heading to Deal's Gap in the second half of April, here's a warning that appeared in the Knoxville News Sentinel recently. It appears there may be 1/2 hour periods with the road closed alternating with 1/2 hour periods of the road being open. 1/2 hour is plenty to get through the twisties, but doing it with a half hour of backed up traffic will definitely put a damper on fun.

And that traffic will be going in both directions, people who have been waiting for 30 minutes to get a chance to go. And you can bet cops will be extra watchful.

Sounds like a great place to avoid until about mid-May. That should give them time to get it all done and cleaned up, with the usual construction delays that typically crop up. Haven't ridden it yet - maybe some day in the next couple years.
