If you’re planning to attend the MSTA’s Red River Gorge Rally this coming weekend, there’s a point of interest about 45 minutes southwest of the host hotel that’s worth checking out.
It’s called Buc-ee’s, and, like its home state Texas, everything is bigger at Buc-ee’s. Opened in April 2022, it’s the first Buc-ee’s store in Kentucky and, as of now, the chain’s northernmost location. It is situated near Richmond, Ky., at the southeast corner of Exit 83 off Interstate 75.
If someone tells you it’s just another gas station, their mind has been warped. The store features about 120 fuel pumps (60 fuel islands) and large store space – reportedly 53,000 square feet – that contains a convenience store, made-to-order food counter, sandwich and fudge stands and gift shop.
In addition to its large stores, Buc-ee’s is known for its brisket sandwiches, wide variety of fudge and “Beaver Nuggets” sweet-and-salty snacks. There’s also a sizable beef jerky selection.
According to the Buc-ee’s website, the company was founded in 1982 and has about 40 stores located in seven states.
The address for the Richmond Buc-ee’s is 1013 Buc-ee’s Blvd., Richmond, KY 40475, and it is open 24 hours per day.
