Next year, I’m planning a trip out west that will include riding the length of Kansas on Interstate 70. I’ve long been told that Kansas is the most boring state to ride through, but I’m curious which state other MSTA members find the most mundane to traverse.
When I planned my first ride out west in 2010, I had people tell me how much I was going to loathe the hundreds of miles I had planned through Iowa and Nebraska. By the end of the trip, I found those two states weren’t all that bad.
That trip took place in late May – so the corn had just started to sprout and I didn’t get the “true” experience of riding through endless cornfields. But the occasional sweepers and elevation change on the interstates in Iowa and Nebraska made the experience not nearly as dull to me as central Illinois and Indiana. Those were some of the dullest miles I’ve ridden aside from western Ohio.
I’m curious which state my fellow MSTA members consider the most boring to ride. I’ve ridden in about 30 of the 48 lower United States, and perhaps a few I haven’t turned a wheel in – such as North Dakota or Kansas – make Illinois and Indiana seem exciting by comparison.
Send your outtakes to webmaster@ridemsta.com, and I’ll post the responses I receive in a future story.
