“When I can just show up and attend a rally, why should I join the club?”
That was the question that an attendee at FlyBy Week asked me a couple of evenings ago. I stumbled through the normal answer about the benefits, the Dan Clark Fund, the raffle bike and the other things that only members can participate in, but really didn’t answer the question to either his or my satisfaction. I spent many hours the next day thinking about what the real answer is.
“The purpose of the club is to bring sport touring enthusiasts together as friends and to provide fun, challenging, and safe ride experiences.”…..Bob Maddocks said that a few years back and it stands true today. The answer to the question is tied directly to that mission.
You see, if someone thinks that this mission is worth working for, then they need to join and participate in the club. Supporting the mission is what members do. Become a member in order to support the mission.
The dues you pay are used to help us with that mission. The dues money goes toward the communication tools we use to bring people together and to provide the ride experiences.
It’s really that simple. Don’t join club not for what’s in it for you. Don’t join the club just for the discounts. Join the club for what you can do to support the mission. Even if it’s only just paying the dues.
Join, participate, and help build the community. You’ll be glad you did!
